Dokuro-Chan licensed

I missed this in my sprint to catch up.  I never thought this would ever, ever get licensed, but sure enough, Media Blasters picked it up.  Apparently no word on whether this includes just the first season or both, though I don’t know why they wouldn’t pick up both.

I’m guessing this will be a sub-only release.

OK, these have absolutely no similarity to each other at all. So sue me. And I used YouTube for the 2nd. So sue me again.

Review

Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan is about a boy, named Sakura (which is unusual since that’s normally a girl’s name) who is to accidentally invent technology in the future that will prevent aging. However, since he’s a pedophile when he’s an adult, he makes it so that females stop aging once they turn 12 years old. This makes God angry and so he sends Dokuro-chan, an angel and member of his Rurutie’s assassin squad to go back in time when Sakura is in middle school and kill him. However, instead of killing him, Dokuro-chan tries to prevent Sakura from inventing the anti-aging technology in the first place.

Of course, one should note that this means, without killing him permanently. In reality, Dokuro-chan kills Sakura on a daily basis, if not more often, with her tetsubo “Excalibolg” only to resurrect him moments later using a special spell (it also cleans up the mess as well, which is especially useful since her favorite methods of killing Sakura usually result in his blood and guts being sprayed over a large area). After a while God sends another angel and Rurutie member Sabato-chan to finish the job.

As one might expect, this is a rather violent and bloody anime, but in a comedic way. Dokuro-chan usually kills Sakura whenever she becomes jealous, if Sakura accidentally gets a peek at her panties, or even if he stops paying attention to her, which happens quite often. Dokuro-chan never quite learns to restrain herself from repeatedly dooming Sakura, despite his numerous pleas.

Dokuro-chan also wrecks havoc in other ways, such as oft ruining Sakura’s approaches towards his crush Shizuki as well as having a halo which is as sharp as a Samurai sword (which, if taken off an angel, causes them to have explosive diarrhea). If you’re one who can get into some sick violent humor, you’ll probably like Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan.

The animation quality of this series is slightly above average, I’d say, with pretty good music (as well as a pretty funny opening song).

Anime Blogging in the future

Assuming there are no breaks in the airing of Nagasarete Airantou (which can happen. Seto no Hanayome took a week off this past week), it should finish airing September 26th.

The next project I’ll be taking on is School Days which, from what I’ve seen online, is a 13 episode series with an expected 3-OVA followup (or something). This series, again if there are no breaks, should air between July 3 - September 25th.

The project after that which I’ll start on will be Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan 2. Assuming this series is aired like the first one, it will air as 2 pairs of 8 half-episodes, once every 2 months (the first double-digit Saturday date). That means it would air August 11th, October 13th, December 15th, and February 16, 2008 - but this is just an assumption.

After that, there are several projects I’m looking forward to. One is Clannad, which is another Key visual novel adaptation. If I can hack through the Japanese well enough, it looks like they’ll announce when this will start airing in August. Most likely it will be a late fall 2007 or winter 2008 start.

Another series I’m looking forward to covering is Shakugan no Shana II. Again, no definite airdate on this either, though ANN says October 2007.

I don’t see anything on the immediate horizon which I’m just really looking forward to seeing at this point, though a few other series may catch my eye between now and then.

What I Want to See: Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan 2

Bokusatsu Tenshi Bokuro-chan 2Bokusatsu Tenshi (or Club-to-Death Angel) Dokuro-chan 2 is the first “What I Want to See” anime that hasn’t even been aired in Japan yet. I’m not entirely sure how I stumbled onto the first Dokuro-chan series of shorts, but I thought they were hilarious. Unfortunately, no one has licensed it in the US, though maybe with a second season, there will be enough of it to get it licensed (the first show was 8 12-minute episodes aired in 4 pairs, one every two months).

I’m not sure how this series is going to air, if it’s going to be done the same way as the first series or if they’re going to treat this as a typical TV series or what, but I’m looking forward to it. I’m almost shocked that Anime News Network has no entry for this show. Usually they have information about shows that have just been announced and nothing more is known about this. This has a station and time now (It’s airing on TV Kanagawa at midnight, local time starting the night of August 11th) .

In any case, I’ll be really mad if someone doesn’t fan sub this one (according to PukiWiki, no one has picked it up yet).
