Here it is again…the post no one but I and a few other people in the known universe care about…the web stats post! Get all the numeric goodness below the fold! Two month edition, which means I haven’t been blogging, which means my numbers are really crappy! But here they are anyway!

August Stats

Percent change in ( ) is from July. Percent change in [ ] is from August 2008.

Visits: 17,138 (-20.6%) [+91.1%]
Page Views: 27,684 (-18.8%) [+58.0]
Absolute Unique Visitors: 13,949 (-20.5%) [+89.9]

That translates into:

Visits/day: 552.8 (-20.6%) [+91.1%]
Page Views/day: 893.0 (-18.8%) [+58.0]
AUV/day: 450.0 (-20.5%) [+89.9%]

Well, August, in theory, should have been a good month since I posted nearly every day of the month, but I had about a 1/5 drop in traffic from July to August nevertheless. I’m not sure what caused the drop in traffic, but oh well, I guess one is prone to have bad months, even when one is posting a lot. Or maybe July was just a big month for some reason, since these numbers are pretty similar to June’s numbers (though still a slight decrease from June in the per day numbers).

The rise over last year’s numbers have been pretty consistent over the past few months, though I thing August ’08 is about the time when I started falling off the map last year or so too.

5 busiest days in August (in visits)

August 20 (665)

August 13 (665)

August 21 (625)

August 9 (614)

August 15 (556)

These numbers are about 200 visits per day lower than my top days in July, which makes sense, since my visits/day average for the month is about 140 lower than in July.

Top 5 visited posts in August (in pageviews)

I’m still trying to figure out why the Winter preview still gets so many hits… In any case, the Top 10 anime of 2008 post is still #1. Starting with #5 in this list, Phantom is basically romping everything, with the Cal “dies” episode leading the list. Meanwhile, the Spring preview finally gets up into the list.

In August, I had visitors from 145 countries, with 22 giving me at least 100 visits and 72 giving me at least 10 visits. Once again, I had a visitor from every US state, with California breaking 1,000 visits and 18 total states breaking 100 visits.

For browser usage, 53.2% of visitors use some flavor of Firefox, and nearly all (>95%) of those using some version of Firefox 3. Internet Explorer users made up 30.6% of visitors, with IE8 users about to overtake IE7 users. IE6 users made up 12.9% of IE users, and 3.9% of all users. Chrome made up 6.7%, Safari made up 5.7%, while Opera made up 2.6%

September Stats

Percent change in ( ) is from August. Percent change in [ ] is from September 2008.

Visits: 9,834 (-42.6%) [+55.9]
Page Views: 15,224 (-45.0%) [+24.7]
Absolute Unique Visitors: 7,971 (-42.9%) [49.2%]

That translates into:

Visits/day: 327.8 (-40.7%) [+55.9]
Page Views/day: 507.5 (-43.2%) [+24.7]
AUV/day: 265.7 (-41.0%) [49.2%]

In a shock to no one, my stats plummeted in September, due to the one-two punch of my site being completely offline for about 3 days, plus the fact that I posted for a grand total of 7 days during the month. As a result, I had my first month with under 10,000 total visits since November 2008, which was at the end of my election hiatus period last year.

I still beat last year, mainly because September was in the middle of my hiatus at the time, thanks to football (once again) and the start of school classes (which I don’t have this time). Maybe I should just skip the fall season and just put up an annual “this blog is closed during football season” message on my blog?

5 busiest days in September (in visits)

September 3 (577)

September 4 (485)

September 5 (509)

September 25 (383)

September 1 (413)

Not shockingly, 4 out of the top 5 days in the month were early in the month, pre-site shoutdown.

Other than the oddity of having a Nijuu Mensou episode review thrown into the top 5, this list basically sums up my month: The top 3 posts, which are old posts that are apparently still informative to people, made up 1/3 of all page views for the entire month.

I had visitors from 134 countries, with 12 countries giving me over 100 visits and 63 giving me at least 10 visits. Somehow, I still had visits from every state in the US, with 11 states giving me over 100 visits.

In September, 52.2% of users used Firefox while 30.3% used Internet Explorer. IE6 usage continued it’s decline, now down to only 11.7% of IE users. IE8 also overtook IE7 for the first time in September. Safari and Chrome both made up 6.6% of visitors while Opera made up 2.6% of visitors.

Percent change in ( ) is from June. Percent change in [ ] is from July 2008.

Visits: 21,589 (+20.4%) [+68.0%]
Page Views: 34,101 (+15.0%) [+44.9%]
Absolute Unique Visitors: 17,536 (18.4%) [+78.3%]

That translates into:

Visits/day: 696.4 (+16.5%) [+68%]
Page Views/day: 1100.0 (+11.3%) [+44.9%]
AUV/day: 565.7 (+14.6%) [+78.3%]

Not spectacular growth, but growth just the same in the stats in July. I hit several new marks in July, including first month with over 20,000 visitors, first month with over 600 visitors per day average, first month with 1,100 page views per day average (as well as most page views in a month thus far), and first month with over 15,000 AUVs and over 500 AUV’s per day average.

The rise from a year ago is smaller than normal for two reason: first, the jump from June 2008 to July 2008 was pretty big (about a doubling), and second, July was really the last month in 2008 that I posted consistently, causing my stats to drop, which took a while to recover from. Nevertheless, growth is growth, so I’ll take it.

5 busiest days in July (in visits)

July 6 (854)

July 27 (852)

July 7 (836)

July 2 (831)

July 13 (822)

July included the 4th – 9th busiest days of the year in number of visits and, as one might be able to tell from that state, the top 6 days in July were all better than the best day in June. However, as yet I still only have 2 days in the year with over 900 visits (March 9 and April 5) and no day has broken 1,000 visits in a single day yet.

Top 5 visited posts in June (in pageviews)

Spring 2009 Anime Preview (941)

I’m rather shocked that the Spring Anime Preview isn’t on this list. Usually the most recent of those jump right to the top, but for whatever reason the spring one wasn’t as popular as some of the others (such as the Winter one which is, inexplicably to me, still my #2 visited post). Phantom still appears to be a series that garners quite a bit of interest, however, with episode reviews of that series making up 4 of the top 10 posts for the month.

In June, there were visits from 149 countries, which is a new all time high. The United States, Canada, and the United Kingom all gave me over 1,000 visits, with the US breaking 10,000 for the first time that I can remember. 26 nations gave me at least 100 visits while 80 gave me at least 10 visits. Once again, every US state gave me at least one visit in the month, with 25 states giving at least 100 visits.

The number of visitors who used Firefox remained relatively steady at 55.5%, with just over 95% of Firefox users using some version of Firefox 3.x. Internet Explorer saw about a 3% drop to 28.9% of users, with another 10% using IE8, up to 36.6%, IE7 falling by about 10% to 49.3% using IE7, and IE6 staying relatively steady at 13.9% of IE users. Chrome makes up 6.1% of browsers, 5.2% use Safari, and 2.9% use Opera.

Here it is again…the post no one but I and a few other people in the known universe care about…the web stats post! Get all the numeric goodness below the fold! And see a review of stats for the first half of 2009 at the end!

Percent change in ( ) is from May. Percent change in [ ] is from June 2008.

Visits: 17,927 (+28.8%) [+179.8%]
Page Views: 29,652 (+32.2%) [+143.2%]
Absolute Unique Visitors: 14,813 (29.1%) [+183.3%]

That translates into:

Visits/day: 597.6 (+33.2%) [+179.8%]
Page Views/day: 988.4 (+36.7%) [+143.2%]
AUV/day: 493.8 (+33.4%) [+183.3%]

My stats appear to have largely recovered from my hiatus during much of April and May. The only of the three stats above that aren’t higher than March’s numbers are the number of Page Views, though they are higher than April.

5 busiest days in June (in visits)

June 29 (794)

June 27 (779)

June 30 (701)

June 21 (676)

June 28 (670)

June 29th ended up being the 4th busiest day of the year and June 27th is in the top 10 days of the year. The visits for each day were actually amazingly consistent this month, with only 3 days in the month getting less than 500 visits.

Top 5 visited posts in June (in pageviews)

Winter 2009 Anime Preview (1,195)

I guess my Summer anime preview was posted too late to get so many hits to get on the top 5 list, but I’m still amazed how many hits some of the past previews get still. However, the biggest thing to note here is that Phantom is obviously a fairly popular series this season, given that 5 of the top 10 pages for the month were episode reviews for that series.

In June, there were visits from 138 countries, which is slightly down from the all time high of 140 from May. 21 nations gave me at least 100 visits while 71 gave me at least 10 visits. Once again, every US state gave me at least one visit in the month, with 18 states giving at least 100 visits.

The number of visitors who used Firefox remained relatively steady at 54.4%, with nearly 95% of Firefox users using some version of Firefox 3.x. Internet Explorer also stayed relatively steady, with 31.5% of users using that browser, with 25.5% using IE8, 58.8% using IE7, and 15.7% using IE6, which appears to be finally dropping, though is still a depressingly high percentage. Chrome makes up 5.3% of browsers, 4.4% use Safari, and 3.1% use Opera.

Now, since we’re halfway through the year (already!) it’s a good time to review the totals for the year up to this point:

Visits: 91,432
Page Views: 156,413
Absolute Unique Visitors: 72,249

That translates into:

Visits/day: 505.1
Page Views/day: 864.2
AUV/day: 399.2

The total numbers already beat the numbers for the entire year of 2008, except for Page Views, which is only off by about 2,100, which means I should have passed the total page view total for 2008 on July 3rd. Of course, this means that the per day averages are currently about twice what they were in 2008.

It looks quite possible, given the normal growth I get per month and assuming that I don’t suddenly go on hiatus again, that 200,000 visits is possible for this year. I’m already well on my way towards 300,000 page views, though it seems like 400,000 page views is probably out of reach for 2009. I guess I could go for the goal of hitting 900 page views per day average (which would give me 328,500 total). I’m also looking at a good chance of hitting 150,000 Absolute Unique Visitors (though I think that stat starts to lose it’s meaning once you go beyond the monthly stats).

Well, first, the good news: I’m at least beating last year’s numbers. That about rounds that out.

The bad news is that my large absence – posting on about 6 days between the end of the first week of April through the first half of May – led to a drop of 20% in my traffic from March to May. However, one relief is that my traffic for June (which I hope I’ll post soon) appears to be up to or even beating that of March, so it looks like this drop may be only temporary.

Again, no shock that the top days in April were in the start of the month and top days in May were in the end of the month, since that’s when I actually posted things.

As usual, the season previews continue to draw a lot of traffic, even after those seasons are already over. However, it looks like Phantom is drawing quite a few visitors, so I’ll have to see whether that continues in June and beyond.

April saw visits from 132 countries, which is actually in increase of 6 from March. Three nations gave me at least 1,000 visits (the first time anyone other than the US or Canada made this list – this time it was the Philippines), 22 nations gave me at least 100 visits, and 71 gave me at least 10 visits. For the fifth straight month, every US state gave me at least 1 visit, with 18 states giving me at least 100 visits.

In May, people from 140 countries visited my site, despite the overall drop in traffic, up 8 from April. However, only 1 nation – the US – gave me over 1,000 visits. 17 nations gave me at least 100 visits while 70 gave me at least 10 visits. Also, for the first time since November 2008, there was a state which didn’t give me a single visit for the month – Wyoming this time. 15 states gave me at least 100 visits.

In April and May, 55% of visitors used Firefox as their browser, a slight increase from March. Now over 90% of all Firefox users use some version of Firefox 3. 31.7% of visitors use Internet Explorer, a drop of nearly 4% from March. Adoption of IE8 is still slow, as still only 12% of IE users use version 8, with 69% still using IE7 and 19% still using IE6. Chrome has now become the #3 browser for visitors, with 4.8% using it, with 4.1% using Safari and 3.3% using Opera.

Percent change in ( ) is from February. Percent change in [ ] is from March 2008.

Visits: 17,416 (43.3%) [255.1%]
Page Views: 32,525 (53.7%) [295.3%]
Absolute Unique Visitors: 14,316 (39.6%) [300.8%]

This translates into:

Visits/day: 561.8 (29.5%) [255.1%]
Page Views/day: 1049.2 (38.5%) [295.3]
AUV/day: 461.8 (26.1%) [300.8%]

Of course, the stats per day is probably the most accurate given that March had 3 more days than February. Even so, the blog still saw pretty good growth and I believe is over 500 visits per day and 1000 Page Views per day for the first time. It’s also up to 1.87 page views per visit, which is the highest I’ve seen in a while, meaning that people are coming and looking around instead of reading one post and then leaving.

For the first quarter of 2009, I’m already at 43,000 visits and nearly 77,000 page views. At this rate, after April, I’ll virtually certainly pass 50,000 visits on the year and have a good shot at passing 100,000 page views. This brings up the possibility that, if my blog’s traffic continues to grow through the year, there is a chance of 250,000 visits and 500,000 page views this calendar year.

Also, just as with last month, I’m nearly tripling the traffic for the same month last year.

The 5 busiest days in March (in visits):

March 9 (925)

March 8 (740)

March 31 (711)

March 29 (691)

March 30 (649)

These constitute the 5 highest traffic days of the entire year (and March had a total of 7 of the top 10 thus far).

And the Special A mystery continues. I don’t think I’ve made a post about this, but my blog has gotten inundated by seemingly non-spammy comments about Special A over the past few weeks, and it appears it’s not just comments but real hits as well, with the top episode summary post being a Special A episode and the Special A category page even beating out CLANNAD‘s, which is nearly unimaginable to me.

Apparently people are finding my blog (and that post specifically) by searching for “special a class episode,” as that post is the 5th listing on the Yahoo! search results page. It also seems to make sense that most of these visitors are from the Philippines as it appears that the show started airing there recently. I just found it really odd how a show that aired in Japan nearly a year ago suddenly had hordes of people commenting on it and visiting those episode pages.

In any case…

In March, there were visits from 126 countries, which is actually a drop of about 9 countries since February, despite the increased traffic. However 20 nations gave me at least 100 visits and 69 gave me at least 10 visits (both an increase over last month). This is also the first month I can recall Canada not being the nation giving me the 2nd most visits, being supplanted by the Philippines and their Special A mania. For the fourth straight month, every US state has given me a visit, with now 17 states giving me at least 100 visits, also ahead of last month.

The erosion of Firefox as the browser of choice by visitors continues, though it still used by a majority, with 53.3% using it. 35.5% of visitors use some version of Internet Explorer while 4.1% use Safari, and 3.2% use each Opera and Chrome. A total 89.8% of Firefox users are using some version of Firefox 3, which is essentially same as last month. Out of IE users, 3.3% are using the newly released IE8, 67.2% are using IE7, while 29.5% are still using the doom of humanity IE6, which is actually a substantial increase over last month (maybe everyone still uses IE6 in the Philippines?)
