Anime Theme Competition - Forth Round Groups E/F Results

It’s time to announce the results of the third two of 8 groups in Round 4 - Groups E & F.

“Naraku no Hana” by Eiko Shimamiya - Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

“Duvet” by Boa - Serial Experiments Lain vs.
“XTC” by Psychic Lover - Witchblade

Well, I’m not sure what I can say other than we’re at the stage where most of these are difficult decisions. However, I think we have set up our first match-up between two songs from the same artist, and Red Fraction and Virgin’s High, both by Mell, will face off in the next round.

Given that I forgot to post these last week, the Group G/H match-ups will hopefully be posted tomorrow. In any case, the Group G/H match-ups are listed after the jump…

Anime Theme Competition - Forth Round Groups C/D Results

(oops, forgot to post this earlier in the week)

It’s time to announce the results of the second two of 8 groups in Round 4 - Groups C & D.

“Colors of the Heart” by UVERworld - Blood+ vs.

“Karenai Hana” by Mikuni Shimokawa - Full Metal Panic vs.
“Falco” by Hitomi Shimatani - The Law of Ueki

There were a pair of difficult choices this time. First was Presence vs. Player. I guess I just liked Presence better, but it was a close one. The second tough one was Colors of the Heart vs. Dramatic.

Anime Theme Competition - Forth Round Groups A/B Results

It’s time to announce the results of the First two of 8 groups in Round 4 - Groups A & B.

The songs which advanced to the Fifth Round are in bold. Also, see the full bracket.

Group A

“Sakasama No Chou” by SNoW - Jigoku Shoujo vs.
“The Light Before We Land” by The Delgados - Gunslinger Girl

“A Flower Without a Name” by The Indigo - Ai Yori Aoshi vs.
“Pure Snow” by Yuko Sasaki - Legend of Himiko

“Motherland” by Crystal Kay - Fullmetal Alchemist vs.
“Waltz” by Kanako Itou - School Days

“Obsession” by See-Saw - .hack//Sign vs.
“Starless Night” by Olivia - NANA

Group B

“The Starry Sky” by HAL - Angelic Layer vs.
“Motteke Sailor Fuku” by Aya Hirano, et. al. - Lucky Star

“Minami Kaze” by Mikuni Shimokawa - Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid vs.
“Zankoku yo Kibou to Nare” by Aira Yuki - Idolmaster Xenoglossia

“Michishirube” by Yuumao - Kashimashi vs.
“Yakusoku no basho e” by Chihiro Yonekura - Kaleido Star

Daiya no Hana” by Yoriko - Black Cat vs.
“Fruits Candy” by Megumi Kojima - Cardcaptor Sakura

The first and hardest choice in this set was Motherland vs. Waltz. I thought both of these were good songs, but Waltz just felt like it ultimately had more “substance” I guess.

The second tough choice this time was Motteke Sailor Fuku vs. The Starry Sky. Sailor Fuku makes another come-from-behind victory and advances to the round of 32 (how does one make a come from behind victory in a song playoff bracket?)

Group C/D match-ups for next week are listed after the jump…

Anime Theme Competition - Third Round Group H Results

It’s time to announce the results of the final of 8 groups in Round 3: Group H. I have now narrowed down the field to 64 songs and head to Round 4. More information on that is later in the post.

The songs which advanced to the Forth Round are in bold. I’m also now entering artist/anime information into the next round match-ups on the bracket as they’re determined:

“Finally” by Sowelu - Angel Heart vs.
“Sore Feet Song” by Ally Kerr - Mushishi

“Usotsuki” by CooRie - School Days vs.
“Agony” by Kotoko - Kannazuki no Miko

“Hikari no Yukue” by Savage Genius - El Cazador vs.
“Dan Dan Dan” by Sun & Lunar - Seto no Hanayome

“Koibito Doushi” by Jyukai - Ah! My Goddess vs.
“Sanctuary” by Nami Tamaki - Kiba

“My Heart, Your Heart” by Goddess Family Club - Oh! My Goddess vs.
“Hoshizora no Waltz” by Minami Kuribayashi - Rumbling Hearts

“Over the Sky” by Hitomi Kurioshi - Last Exile vs.
“Koisuru Tenkizu” by Yui Horie - Nagasarete Airantou

“Natsukashii Umi” by Akino Arai - Kurau: Phantom Memory vs.
“Innocent Sorrow” by Abingdon Boys School - D. Gray-Man

“Sore ga, Ai Deshou” by Mikuni Shimokawa - Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu vs.
“Hishoku no Sora” by Mami Kawada - Shakugan no Shana

There weren’t that many hard choices this time, but one that was hard was Usotsuki vs. Agony.

I also had to think a little while over Over the Sky vs. Koisuru Tenkizu. However, even though the choices for this group in this round was relatively easy, I think overall this is a pretty packed group - it’s just that none of the really good songs happened to face each other this round.

I also feel compelled to note this: I appear to have ended this round much like I started it. In the Group A matchups, the 2nd song won 7 of 8 matchups. This week? The 2nd song won 7 of 8 matchups. If you’re curious, the 2nd song won 37 of 64 matchups (58%) overall, so it wasn’t horribly lopsided, especially given the 1st songs and 2nd songs nearly split the other 6 groups (it was 25 to 23 in favor of the top song in those).

Anime Theme Competition - Third Round Group G Results

It’s time to announce the results of the 7th of 8 groups in Round 3 - Group G. One more group to go in the 3rd round after this!

The songs which advanced to the Fourth Round are in bold. I’m also now entering artist/anime information into the next round match-ups on the bracket as they’re determined:

“Blurry Eyes” by L’Arc-en-Ciel - DNA2 vs.
“Tooi Kono Machi de” by Naomi Kaiya - Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie

“Yoake Umarekuru Shoujo” by Yoko Takahashi - Shakugan no Shana vs.
“Ice Cream” by Saeko Chiba - The World of Narue

“Tsubasa wa Pleasure Line” by Minami Kuribayashi - Chrono Crusade vs.
“Tori no Uta” by Lia - Air

“And Then” by Miyuki Hashimoto - Girls Bravo vs.
“Melissa” by Porno Graffiti - Fullmetal Alchemist

“Re-sublimity” by Kotoko - Kannazuki no Miko vs.
“White Destiny” by Yoko Ishida - Pretear

“Metamorphose” by Yoko Takahashi - This Ugly Yet Beautiful World vs.
“Only You” by Mi - Bokura ga Ita

“Ashita he no Hikari” by Asuka Hinoi - Seto no Hanayome vs.
“Wo Ai Ni” by Dream - Asobotto Senki Goku

“You” by Yuria - Shuffle! vs.
“Shining Days” by Minami Kuribayashi - My-Hime

This group may have been one of the most difficult to get through yet, with no fewer than 4 very difficult choices to make.

The first was Yowake Umare Kuru Shoujo vs. Ice Cream. Boy, I probably had to listen to these two songs at least three times before settling on Yowake (I changed my mind twice on this one, by the way). This was definitely a choice I didn’t want to make this early in the bracket.

The second was Tsubasa wa Pleasure Line vs. Tori no Uta. Maybe it was it’s length or it wasn’t jumpy enough, but I eventually went with Tsubasa on this one.

The third was And Then vs. Melissa. Out of the three, this was probably the easiest, but still not easy. In the end, I just felt that And Then was a little too…”bubbly” I guess, and went with Melissa.

The fourth and final one was Metamorphose vs. Only You. All-in-all, I just liked Metamorphose better I guess, though it was pretty close.

Most of the others weren’t necessarily easy, but they seemed like that in comparison to those four.

Anime Theme Competition - Third Round Group F Results

It’s time to announce the results of the 6th of 8 groups in Round 3 - Group F. That’s right, I’m 3/4 of the way through this round as I’m really close to narrowing down the field to 64 songs.

The songs which advanced to the Fourth Round are in bold. I’m also now entering artist/anime information into the next round match-ups on the bracket as they’re determined:

“Red Fraction” by Mell - Black Lagoon vs.
“Mahou Shoujo Magical-tan” by Yukari Tamura - Moetan

“Kirameku Namida wa Hoshi ni” by Sachi Tamura - Fate/Stay Night vs.
“Moonlight” by s.e.n.s. - Kurau: Phantom Memory

“Saa” by Surface - Mamotte Shugogetten vs.
“Farewell Song” by Lia - Air

“Virgin’s High” by Mell - Sky Girls vs.
“Time Waits for No One” by WAG - Project ARMS

“Takaramono” by Yoko Ishida - Ai Yori Aoshi ~Enishi~ vs.
“Kaze no Hana” by Hana*Hana - Someday’s Dreamers

“Under the Blue Sky” by The Indigo - Someday’s Dreamers vs.
“Naraku no Hana” by Eiko Shimamiya - Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

“Fugainaiya” by Yuki - Honey & Clover II vs.
“Duvet” by Boa - Serial Experiments Lain

“Raspberry Heaven” by Oranges & Lemons - Azumanga Daioh vs.
“XTC” by Psychic Lover - Witchblade

A few difficult ones, and few easy ones this week. The first difficult one was, amazingly, Red Fraction vs. Mahou Shoujo Magical-Tan, given how different they are. However, I went with Red Fraction because Magical-Tan was, how should I put it, “kiddy” I guess is a way to put it.

Next was Saa vs. Farewell Song, and while I was leaning towards Saa to start with, I think it was just too 70s/80s for me to advance lol.

Anime Theme Competition - Third Round Group E Results

It’s time to announce the results of the 5th of 8 groups in Round 3 - Group E.

The songs which advanced to the Fourth Round are in bold. I’m also now entering artist/anime information into the next round match-ups on the bracket as they’re determined:

“Bara Ga Saku, Bara Ga Chiru” by Rina Aiuchi - Souten no Ken vs.
“Hakanaku Tsuyoku” by Younha - Kiba

“Yume no Naka e” by Atsuku Enomoto & Chihiro Suzuki - His and Her Circumstances vs.
“Cloud Age Symphony” by Shuntaro Okino - Last Exile

“Tattoo Kiss” by r.o.r/s - Kaleido Star vs.
“Tears to Tomorrow” by Mami Kawada - Please Twins

“Blaze” by Kotani Kinya - Tsubasa Chronicle vs.
“Hare Hare Yukai” by Aya Hirano, Minori Chiharai, & Yuko Gotou - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

“Yasashii Ai no Hane” by Masumi Itou - Angel Tales Chu vs.
“Congratulations” by Goddess Family Club - Oh! My Goddess

“dis-” by Mika Arisaka - Infinite Ryvius vs.
“Zankoku na Tenshi no Teize” by Shiroh Sagisu - Neon Genesis Evangelion

“Second Flight” by Kotoko - Please Twins vs.
“Ready Steady Go” by L’Arc~en~Ciel - Fullmetal Alchemist

“Forever” by Savage Genius - Elemental Gelad vs.
“Ashita e no Melody” by Chaka - Cardcaptor Sakura 2: The Sealed Card

Another couple of difficult pairs in this one. The first was Yume no Nake e vs. Cloud Age Symphony. I like the chorus for stuff for Cloud Age Symphony, but taken overall, I don’t think it was as good, and it went too long (that’s not to say I don’t like long songs, but I think certain parts of it went too long).

The next was Tattoo Kiss vs. Tears to Tomorrow, another good OP vs. good ED matchup and both of these probably could have advanced a couple rounds at least, but I decided to go with Tattoo Kiss.

Oh, and I forgot to do this last week, but here are a list of anime and artists who have had multiple songs advance through the halfway point (through Group D):

Artists:
Mikuni Shimokawa (3)
The Indigo (2)
Origa (2)

Anime:
Full Metal Panic (3)
Ai Yori Aoshi (2)
Angelic Layer (2)
Ghost in the Shell (2)
Idolmaster Xenoglossia (2)

“Karenai Hana” by Mikuni Shimokawa - Full Metal Panic

“Falco” by Hitomi Shimatani - The Law of Ueki vs.
“Sajou no Yume” by Yuko Sasaki - The Third: The Girl With the Blue Eye

There were a couple tough choices this week. Ameagari vs. 19sai was the first one I ran into which I had to think longer than about 10 seconds about before choosing. Meanwhile, Tokimeki no Doukasen vs. Kaze no Tadori Tsuku Basho as Tokimeki is one of my favorite “old school” anime themes, but alas, I fell in love with Kaze no Tadori the first time I heard it.

Anime Theme Competition - Third Round Group C Results

It’s time to announce the results of the 3rd of 8 groups in Round 3 - Group C.

“Player” by Origa - Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society vs.
“I Do!” by The Indigo - Ai Yori Aoshi ~Enishi~

“Hitori no Yoru” by Porno Graffitti - Great Teacher Onizuka vs.
“Presence” by The Indigo - Ai Yori Aoshi ~Enishi~

“Sha la la Ayakashi -Night-” by Saeka Uura - Kekkaishi vs.
“Promise” by Tia - Yakitate!! Japan

“Going My Way” by Yozuca - Girls Bravo vs.
“Tobira no Mukou e” by Yellow Generation - Fullmetal Alchemist

“Prism” by Ayako Ikeda - Denno Coil vs.

“Hikari” by Yui Horie - Inukami vs.
“Colors of the Heart” by UVERworld - Blood+

“Little Wing” by JAM Project - Scrapped Princess vs.
“Dramatic” by Yuki - Honey & Clover

For once I had a week with no matchups that made up tear my hair out. Possibly the hardest were “Dramatic” vs. “Little Wing” and “Noble Roar” vs. “Prism” but I didn’t have to struggle mightily over them. And for once, an artist/anime that did double duty is actually able to advance this week.
