Letter Bee: Reverse – Episode 1

Pre-thoughts: This is the second half of a series that I watched, but didn’t blog, in the Spring. It was alright when I watched it, but there doesn’t seem to be much better to watch this season.

Show: Letter Bee: Reverse
Media: Crunchyroll, Episode 1 (series episode 26)

Cry, Baby, Cry

I’m trying to remember exactly what happened at the end of the last series, but in any case, Lag finally finds Gauche, only to find that he’s lost his memories, which Lag suspects is from losing his heart.  Worse, Gauche now works as a Marauder, doing the work of an anti-government group known as Reverse.  He is deponent over not being able to bring Gauche back, but is only chewed out by Sylvette of all people for being a crybaby.  Meanwhile, Niche feels like she’s a failure as Lag’s dingo.

Ah yes, I had almost forgotten how much of a crybaby Lag was.  I know it’s a running gag, but it’s already damn annoying.  In any case, they didn’t waste any time telling us who Gauche, now known as Noir, works for and what their aims are.  There isn’t really much more we can say about this episode at this point.  In any case, it looks like the next episode will be the Grand Adventure of Trying to Get Niche to put on Her Underwear Back On.

First Impressions: Letter Bee (Tegami Bachi)

Letter BeeJosh - Letter Bee was one of the series pretty high on my expectations list, and after two episodes, it has the potential to be pretty good, though since we suddenly got a a “5 years later” jump at the end of the second episode, it’s hard to say where this series is going to go from here.  All we know is that there are Letter Bees, they carry letters, Lag wants to be one, and his mother was taken to the capital city.  Beyond that, it’s pretty wide open I think.

The first couple of episodes were rather corny with sobbing and all that all over the place, but it wasn’t necessarily anything bad yet.  I’m still hopeful that this series will end up being something worth watching.

Oh yeah, one final sort-of annoying note.  Crunchyroll says this series is 13 episodes long, but it’s actually about an 11 episode series pretending to be 13 episodes long, since episodes are only about 20 minutes long instead of the usual 23 to 24 minutes long.

Polaryzed – Contrary to Josh, this show was actually on my pass list initially (I’m not a big fantasy fan).  I only watched the first 2 episodes since I read other blogs praising it.  So far I kind of regret it.  Personally I found the plot to be fairly generic, and the acting somewhat corny and forced.  Lag annoyed the crap out of me, to be honest.  I’ll probably watch a couple more episodes now that Lag is older to see where the plot goes.  If things don’t get better, then I’m dropping this.

Fall 2009 Blog and Watch List

Sorry for not putting together a Fall 2009 Preview post this season.  I’d kind of fallen into one of my occasional funks in the past month or so where I think I have to take a short break from anime, but I think I’m about over it and ready to come roaring back again.

This past week I started catching up on over 40 episodes of anime that I was behind on for the summer season, but hopefully by the end of today, I’ll be almost through with those.  I also hope to have the final episode review of Phantom out sometime this week as well.

Having said all that, it’s time to look ahead at the shows that I want to blog and watch in the Fall 2009 season.

Blog List

Kobato

I think since I still haven’t completely gotten on my feet again in regards to blogging, it would probably be unwise to pick up more than one show at the moment, so that’s what I’m going to do.  Those of you who know me know that I’m a CLAMP freak, so the show that I am blogging should have been pretty easy to guess.

Watch List

11eyes
A Certain Scientific Railgun
Asura Cryin 2
Kimi ni Todoke
Letter Bee
Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu: Purezza
Winter Sonata

For my watch list, I have two second seasons in the list.  The first, Asura Cryin 2, I mainly included because the list of new shows this season didn’t look all that spectacular, so it ended up being a logical choice to add since I watched the first season.  The second, Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu: Purezza, is the second season to a show that I liked quite a bit, and I was thinking about blogging it until I decided to take on only one new show.

For new shows I’m watching this season, 11eyes sounds like it could be interesting, and I liked the show art for this series, so that’s why it ended up being picked up. I swore to myself, that after the disaster called A Certain Magical Index, I wouldn’t watch A Certain Scientific Railgun, but here I am.  I think mainly because of the blandness of the season, and it also centers around one of the characters I actually liked.  Kimi ni Todoke was a borderline series when I first saw it, but decided to include it, again, because nothing else much looked interesting this season.  Hopefully it’ll turn out to be a good series.  Letter Bee is the most hopeful of the new series that I’m watching this season, and I definitely would have considered blogging it if I were blogging more series.  Finally, there is Winter Sonata, which also looks like a rather promising series to me, so I decided to pick it up.

There is also the OVA series Shakugan no Shana S which is supposed to release it’s first episode in October, which I’ll be blogging.  But I’m expecting that to be a “one episode every 2 or 3 months” type of deal so I’ll blog it as it comes.
