Fall 2007 Anime Preview

It’s that time again: It’s time to look at what anime is airing in the Fall 2007 season. I’m listing these in alphabetical order.

There are 7 levels of ratings that I’ll give a show:

  • Will definitely blog it
  • May blog it (implies that I will definitely watch it)
  • Will definitely watch it
  • May watch it
  • May watch it if I hear good things about it
  • Probably Won’t Watch it
  • Won’t watch it

This time around I’m also just going to leave out sequels to series that I haven’t seen yet. I’m not going to watch a sequel before the original, so there isn’t even any point in my writing about it. Also, thanks to PukiWiki for keeping a great list of upcoming shows. Oh yeah, and thanks to THAT Anime Blog for reminding me to do this lol.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way…here we go!

What I Want to See: CLANNAD

CLANNADAh yes, another Visual Arts/Key visual novel turned anime series. I’ve seen Kanon and loved it, and I should get Volume 1 of Air in the mail from Netflix today, and CLANNAD would complete the “trilogy,” so to speak.

I’ve been looking at this one for a while, but I wanted to wait until an official announcement on when it would air was made. This past week that announcement was made: October 4th. Of course there is a movie of this being made, but I would almost rather watch the series first, then watch the movie, so the movie doesn’t spoil the series for me.

The movie, which is being made by Toei Animation (which did both the Air Movie and the 2002 Kanon series) is being put into theaters September 15th. The TV series is being done, once again, by Kyoto Animation which did both the Air TV series as well as the 2006 Kanon remake. There is no word on how long the TV series will be yet.

One thing that is different about CLANNAD over both Air and Kanon is that it was never released as an adult bishojo game. Both Air and Kanon started out as adult games, and then had a “clean” version released later.

CLANNED is also the biggest of Key’s visual novels, at least in terms of lines of dialog (which may suggest a full length season will be made).

From the few things I’ve read about it (I try not to spoil it), I haven’t seen anything that indicates anything of a mystical nature in CLANNAD, but given that this is Key, and such things have occurred in both Kanon and Air, it’s definitely not out of the question. In any case, I’m hoping for yet another success coming from both Key and Kyoto Animation.

Clannad to air this Fall

The debate over whether Clannad would air in the fall, or whether KyoAni would push the second season of Haruhi ahead of it has ended.

According to a report from TBS (that’s Tokyo Broadcasting) Anime Fest says that Clannad will start airing on October 4th, 2007 (well, actually the 5th at 1:30am).

This means that Haruhi fans will have to wait a bit longer, depending on whether Clannad follows Air and is a half season show (and thus Haruhi could start airing in January) or follows Kanon as a full season (and Haruhi would probably start in April).

I’ve been looking forward to both, so I didn’t really care which came first but at least people can stop wondering now.

Anime Blogging in the future

Assuming there are no breaks in the airing of Nagasarete Airantou (which can happen. Seto no Hanayome took a week off this past week), it should finish airing September 26th.

The next project I’ll be taking on is School Days which, from what I’ve seen online, is a 13 episode series with an expected 3-OVA followup (or something). This series, again if there are no breaks, should air between July 3 – September 25th.

The project after that which I’ll start on will be Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan 2. Assuming this series is aired like the first one, it will air as 2 pairs of 8 half-episodes, once every 2 months (the first double-digit Saturday date). That means it would air August 11th, October 13th, December 15th, and February 16, 2008 – but this is just an assumption.

After that, there are several projects I’m looking forward to. One is Clannad, which is another Key visual novel adaptation. If I can hack through the Japanese well enough, it looks like they’ll announce when this will start airing in August. Most likely it will be a late fall 2007 or winter 2008 start.

Another series I’m looking forward to covering is Shakugan no Shana II. Again, no definite airdate on this either, though ANN says October 2007.

I don’t see anything on the immediate horizon which I’m just really looking forward to seeing at this point, though a few other series may catch my eye between now and then.
