First Impressions: CANAAN

CANAANCANAAN is one of the more anticipated series of the season, and in the sense of animation and action, I’d say it’s definitely fit the bill.  As far as the story goes, I still think it’s too early to really know.  This seems like it’s going to be one of those shows where you don’t really know what’s going on, but you continue to be given pieces here and there as the series goes on until it all comes together in the end.

Basically at this point we have the “Snakes,” which seem to be some sort of terrorist group, whatever group CANAAN is working for, which doesn’t seem to be all that nice of a group either, in that they’re just using CANAAN (or so they think), and then we have this photographer girl Maria who had been injected by some sort of super virus which she only survived because her father was the president of a huge pharmaceutical company.  How all of these fit together, however, is yet to be seen.  Stories like this seem to either do really well or really badly from my experience.

Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom – Episode 16

It’s Phantom episode 16 and Claudia and the Godoh’s now believe they’ve closed the case of who was knocking their members off with the revelation that Issac’s man was trying to snipe them. This causes Reiji to wonder whether he should cut ties with Cal. However, Scythe Master still has another card up his sleeve as well.

First Impressions: Taishou Yakyuu Musume

taishou_yakyuu_musumeTaishou Yakyuu Musume was perhaps the show that I had the most uncertainty and doubts about when I added it to my watch this for this season, but so far it seems to be holding up pretty good.  After the first two episodes, it seems to be pretty much the type of show I was hoping it would be: a slice of life comedy which uses baseball to drive the story.

The fact that it’s set in 1920s Japan adds an extra layer to this show, since baseball was both first starting, and girls were still expected to be “proper” and not engage in such things at the time, so the girls organizing the team still have to do so semi-secretly.  This show has definitely been good enough for me to continue watching it with optimism.

Funimation licenses Eden of the East, Casshern Sins remake

Funimation entertainment has announced that they have licensed the anime series Eden of the East and the Casshern Sins remake.  Both shows are scheduled to come out in 2010.

Casshern Sins is a 24 episode series which aired October 2008 and March 2009.  Eden of the East is an 11 episode series which aired between April and June 2009.

Funimation also got box sets of remastered Dragon Ball Z episodes, which apparently are DVD box set releases made from the original masters.  I guess this is somewhat of a big deal for Funimation and DBZ fans.

Funimation also announced the Korean live-action movie Daytime Drinking at their Otakon panel, scheduled for an April 2010 release.

Yesterday, Funimation also announced that they had licensed four Case Closed movies: The Last Wizard of the Century, Captured in Her Eyes, Countdown to Heaven, and The Phantom of Baker Street.
