Cardcaptor Sakura – Episode 12

It’s Cardcaptor Sakura episode 12, and it’s Sakura has a recorder test at school. Unfortunately for her, she has a recorder test the next day and the day after that too! Wait, what’s going on here?

Sakura is awoken by the bells at her school ringing at midnight, something which they aren’t supposed to do. The next day at school, Sakura has to take a recorder test (oh god, I remember those things), but messes up on it. Meanwhile, Kero marathons a video game and saves it just before the “final battle.”

The next morning, Kero finds all his saved game data gone, while at school, Sakura finds herself taking the recorder test again, which of course Sakura finds odd as they already took that test the day before. At least this time Sakura aces the test.

After talking about it with Tomoyo, to whom everything seems normal, and she suggests that Sakura is having deja-vu. However, Shaoran approaches Sakura and confirms that, to him, they’re repeating the day as well, and tells Sakura that there is a Clow Card in the school’s bell tower.

That night, Sakura heads towards the school to capture the card. However, her efforts prove fruitless as the card, which Kero identifies as the Time card, is able to rewind the entire day once again. Sakura, Tomoyo, and Kero then head to the school again that night, after reliving the day for the third time. This time Shaoran shows up and suggests destroying the clock tower, something Sakura protests. Shaoran tells Sakura that it’ll notice her if she tries to fly to the tower, so they all try to stealthily approach the card.

Once in the tower, Time is about to activate again, so Shaoran tells Sakura to use the Shield card to protect them against the affects of Time. Seeing this, Time tries to escape, but Shaoran is able to stop it by using pre-placed magical talismans, allowing Sakura to seal the card. However, the card flies to Shaoran because, as Kero explains, the card is owned by the person who turns it back into it’s original shape.

Well, we finally get an answer to the question as to how Shaoran might be able to collect Clow Cards even though he doesn’t have the sealing staff: if he’s the one responsible for returning the card to it’s original form, then it’s still his to keep. Though that doesn’t explain why he didn’t become the owner of the Thunder card before, but maybe the fact that Sakura helped constrain Thunder using Shadow was a factor that allowed her to keep that card…

Today we see Sakura actually wear the costume that Tomoyo was working on in the last episode, which is pretty cool since it clearly shows continuity between episodes. We already had already shown that pretty much anyway, but, other than the Clow Cards, I think this might be the first thing that we see in one episode actually used in a later episode.

I think the anime took quite a bit of liberties with the manga when it came to Syaoran and the cards. I want to say that in the manga, he didn’t collect a single card.

Still, looking at your screen captures, I’m reminded of one of the reasons that CCS is so enjoyable. ^_^

Hmm, I’d have to go back and look at the manga to see whether he captured any. Of course, in the manga there were only something like 19 cards while there are 52 in the anime, so yeah…

And yeah, watching my DVDs to write the reviews and then watching the downloaded HD to get the screencaps…it’s somewhat amazing to see the difference.

I particularly like and enjoy this episode. Maybe because Shaoran goes heart softed and helps Sakura a little bit..
