Nagisa keeps taking her mornings and evenings to come over to Okazaki’s apartment to fix breakfast and dinner. At one point she appears to prod him into asking her if she wants to live there herself, saying that she’s sad that he’s alone after she leaves, but Okazaki just tells her that he goes right to sleep after she leaves. However, other than playing house, the two are spending less and less together.
Meanwhile, at work, Okazaki is having trouble due to his hurt right shoulder, making him do much of his work with is left arm. Yoshino notices, but just says that he’ll cover for him. One night, Okazaki.has to do a job alone and, even though Yoshino, who comes by to pick him up, doesn’t notice anything wrong at the time, does notice something the next day. When Okazaki hears about it, he goes out to help Yoshino fix it in order to take responsibility, in lieu of going to the Founder’s Festival at school with Nagisa. The next day, Okazaki fears that he’ll get yelled at at work, but everyone seems cool with it, and tell him that everyone makes mistakes – that matters is what you do to make up for them.
One of the things I liked about this episode was that I think it realistically created the pressure that one feels when starting a new job, especially when doing something that you’re not familiar with. One feels this obligation that you have to do everything perfectly, under fear of being yelled at if you don’t. Yet, in the end, things aren’t that bad as everyone you work with knows that you’re new and that everyone makes mistakes at times.
However, I’m thinking that this episode may be setting up two things. First, I think it’s setting up some major event between Nagisa and Okazaki because of how little time they’re spending together. Normally, I’d think it would result in a fight, but neither Nagisa nor Okazaki seem to be that kind of person. Instead, I have a feeling that the resolution will be Nagisa moving in with Okazaki for good.
The second thing it’s setting up, I think, is some major mistake Okazaki makes at work, possibly resulting in someone’s injury or some other highly dangerous situation. With his bum arm, I just kind of feel that something like that happening is inevitable.
I do like how we got to see a bit more into Akio and Sanae’s marriage, though, with the two seemingly never leaving childhood when their marriage is concerned (with Akio playing seemingly elmentary school tricks on Sanae and the like).
In any case, My guess is that we’ll only have one more episode this year, and then it’s on to 2009.
