Ken and Kayam rescue Chiko from the mob, while the police try to tell people to take shelter. Ken then flies the blimp to the tower, but it gets shot down by the zombie twins, and he crash lands on the tower.

Ken and Kayama continue their battle with the zombie twins as Chiko heads towards the top of the tower. There, Twenty Faces has confronted the Professor, but finds that the Professor has also given himself a super body, and in fact has given himself one that looks just like Twenty Faces. When Chiko arrives, she tries to stop the Professor, but can’t before he reactivates the tower and re-creates the 4th state of water once again.

During all of this, the Professor explains that he went on a robbing spree to get money to continue his experiments, and he became known as “The Man with Twenty Faces.” However, a new person started stealing things as well – however this time to return riches to their proper owners – and soon he took over the name of Twenty Faces. Twenty Faces then went around and systematically destroyed all the things they had invented before the Professor himself could get to them, depriving him of the opportunity to use them for himself.

It seems that Chiko and Twenty Faces have met their match as neither seems to be able to battle these zombie bodies – even though Twenty Faces help create them (of course, him being wounded in about a dozen different ways doesn’t help). Meanwhile, Chiko just isn’t fast or powerful enough to defeat him.

Kayama seems to have figured out their weakness, but we haven’t found out what it is. If they have to wait for the weakness to show up, they’re definitely running out of time.

At least we know part of why Twenty Faces was doing what he was doing. I have a feeling that the next episode will be the final episode in this arc, with the final episode either being some sort of wrap-up or one dealing with Chiko’s mother.

In the Himura arc, Yuu finds that Yuuko is being bullied by the other girls at school due to their hiding Yuuko’s indoor shoes, destroying her outdoor shoes, and writing vulgarities in her magazines. This starts to bring Yuu closer to Yuuko, despite his previous apprehension, and he starts to be protective of her, even though he denies that he has feelings for her. Despite this, Mr. Amamiya, who is Yuuko’s adopted brother, still can’t convince Yuu to join the Art Club, which he wants him to do, in part, so that Yuu can convince Hirono to stop drawing while naked, something which he is understandably getting complaints about.

Meanwhile, in Mizuki’s arc, she tries to visit Kuze at his house again, but Kuze doesn’t answer. Mizuki then goes around town, first going to the church, where he meets Yuu Himura. He warns Mizuki to not “get in too deep” with Kuze. She then visits the old train station where she finds Chihiro. Upon mentioning Kuze, Chihiro remembers something and finds a note in her diary. However, this note, which she shows to Mizuki, says that Kuze is about to die. For this reason, Kuze has also decided to break things off with Mizuki.

Kuze decides to play his violin one last time on the beach, which Mizuki is told about and dashes over there to listen to. However, Kuze sets his violin and case on fire, which Mizuki tries desperately to put out, even burning her hands to do so.

The Mizuki and Kuze story arc seems to be accelerating quite quickly, so there must be something else about Kuze that will stretch that arc out for the remaining 9 episodes or so. Mizuki seems to be falling for Kuze, partly because she’s lovelorn and she’s looking for anyone, and Kuze is the closest and easiest person to fall for.

Meanwhile, I continue to be intrigued by the Yuu/Yuuko story arc. Yuuko is obviously being bullied quite a bit, and I’m almost certain we haven’t discovered the full extent of it yet. Even so, Yuuko doesn’t seem to mind being the other girls’ punching bag – a fact which seems to piss Yuu off as much as the bullying itself.

Episode 11

In yet another over-the-top episode of Maid Guy, the kendo team is doing stair exercises by running up and down the school’s stairs. Of course, the Boob Fan Club uses this chance to observe Naeka’s boobs bouncing during the exercise, but this leads to the group’s Leader to crash down the stairs, losing his memory and throwing him into a coma. Only Naeka’s boobs brought him out of his coma, and now the doctor wants to use Naeka to recover his memories. Unfortunately for Naeka, even though he’s lost his memories, his penchant for loving boobs hasn’t gone away.

Well, we’re back to boobs in this one, as well as all of Naeka’s friends and Maid Guy’s misguided attempts to aid Naeka on her “date” with “Leader.” By this point in the series, boob jokes have worn rather thin, and so the entertainment factor has largely gone away by this point.

Episode 12

Naeka and Kyosuke’s grandfather invite them to his 70th birthday party, but to help them keep a low profile, he decides to make it a masquerade ball. However, this doesn’t stop a man named Wabisuke Kofujiwara – the next inline to the family inheritance – and his maid Kyochuka from attempting to blackmail Naeka’s grandfather into making him the heir by kidnapping Naeka and Kyousuke.

At first it looks like he succeeds until it’s revealed that they actually kidnapped Fubuki and Maid Guy in disguise. At first it appears Kyochuka has eliminated Maid Guy via one of the special Maid Guy whistles, but Naeka is able to wake him up and he finally is able to fend off Kyochuka – though she regroups with Kofujiwara to fight another day.

This might have been the best episode in the series, just because something happened that didn’t deal with Naeka’s boobs. If most of the series was more like this, it might have been a better series overall. Though I’m still trying to figure out exactly when Maid Guy and Fubuki made the switch with Naeka and Kyosuke…

Thoughts

Well, it seems clear from the end of the episode and the fact that it still says that there is 124 days until Naeka’s coming of inheritence that they intend to make a second season of this series. If that series is more like this final episode rather than the rest of the series (something I’m not particularly counting on), then I may get the urge to watch it. Otherwise, it would hardly be a high priority series unless there was just nothing else.

Sunohara and Sanae – whose alias is “Sanoko Isogai” have a date around town together, with Mai, Tomoya, and Nagisa following to see what they do. Predictably, Sunohara guides her through the worst date imaginable. Also, through Sanae’s disguise and her cooking for Sunohara, Mai suspects that something is up.

Afterward, Mai tells Sunohara that she’s actually come back to see the boy she likes since he says nice things to her and runs off. Nagisa and Tomoya run off after her, in case the guy she’s meeting is bad, but Sunohara, deranged from having a date, stays behind. However, Tomoya and Nagisa soon find out that this was an act put on by Mai to try to get her “old brother” – the one who used to protect her and care about others when he was younger – to come back.

The next day, after Mai is told the date was a fake, Sanae decides to have one final “thanks” date with Sunohara, and Mai and Tomoya end up going around town together, with Tomoya has her “oniichan” since Mai likes him better than her own brother. However, Sunohara runs into them in town and asks what they’re doing. Tomoya, trying to get Sunohara’s protective side activated, tell him that he’s ditched Nagisa and is actually dating Mai now, but instead of getting Sunohara riled up, he just walks away depressed. Mai decides that she’s not going home until she can get her old brother back.

We could probably have gotten to this more interesting story arc without the bulk of the last episode or much of the first half of this episode, but at least it did lead the story into a more interesting direction.

I’ve thought this before – though I’m not sure I’ve actually said it – that Sunohara seems to have a sort of siscon while Mai has a sort of oniicon (is that what you would call a big brother complex?). Now, I don’t think it’s sexual in nature or anything, but they each seem to be very negatively effected if the other seems more interested in something or someone else. Of course, Sunohara’s issues appear to be related in a crash in his self esteem as well (which is somewhat understandable given how much shit he gets from everyone else, even if a lot of it is deserved). I think the best advice Sunohara could be given is to be himself instead of trying to act cooler than he is.

The other notable thing here is that Mai wants to start Sunohara back on the good track by having him rejoin the soccer team, but something bad obviously happened between the team and Sunohara since Tomoya seems to think that that’s a tough proposition. I seem to recall perhaps hearing something along this line before in the show, but nothing specific, but I’m sure we’re about to hear more about it.

In any case, at least the first third of this series – if it is indeed only going to be 12 episodes long – is dealing with something other than Tomoya and Nagisa, so either the final story arc for those charcters isn’t that long, or this is going to be a full season show.

In this series, humans and youkai have long lived together on earth, though usually not all that peacefully.  As a result, the town of Sakurashin was established as a place where youkai and humans could live together harmoneously.

To keep the peace, the town has an organization called the Youkai Life Consultation Office which consists of 4 members: Hime, who some of the members call the “Mayor” (though I’m unsure whether she actually is the mayor of the town) and who is a powerful youkai, Kotoha, who is a youkai who can conjur up just about anything, Ao, a youkai who can read minds, and Akina, a human who is the only person in the town who can use “tuning” – a method through which bad or out of control youkai can be sent back to their dimension.

So far, it looks like some bad youkai dude is trying to cause problems with the Nana-gou trees around the town which are meant to keep bad things out, but what exactly his goal is, I’m not sure.

In any case, this series seems to have some interesting characters in it and the first two episodes look promising, so I’m hoping for the best with this series.
