To Aru Majutsu no Index, or A Certain Magical Index, is about a girl, Index, who is being chased around by a bunch of magicians because she’s memorized the contents of some 103,000 books, some of them rare and dangerious and otherwise, in the opinion of the Church, in need of being protected or kept secret.
She runs into Kamiyo, an esper who is the weakest esper around (a Level 0) but whose right hand has the ability to neutralize any supernatural power wieleded by esper or magician alike. Unfortunately for him, this also means that any good luck that God wishes to grace upon him is instantly obliterated by this power as well.
So far the action has been, well, slow and lacking. We’ve had a friend of Kamiyo’s who is a Level 5 esper and who can conjur up an EMP storm like you’ve never seen on demand, and a magician who likes to fling around fire – as well as talk – a lot and who, apparently, can be defeated by a single punch to the head once his magic becomes useless.
After two episodes of this series, Index could be good if the writers want it to be, but it could also be a big waste of time pretty easily. What fun is a good old supernatural show if the supernatural part of it is boring or lacking? This is worth watching just to see if it gets better, but I’m not necessarily thrilled with it so far.
