Shakugan no Shana II – Episode 15

It’s episode 15, and you better fasten your seatbelts and put on a helmet for this episode, as everyone shows up to have fun, including Bel Peol, Hecate, Fecor, and the mad scientist. What is Margery’s reaction to the Silver coming out of Yuji, and we finally find out what exactly Fumina is.

That sucks

The highlights of this episode:

  • Yuji is freaking out due to the large silver arm sticking out of his body, while Pheles is freaking out because that arm just went straight through her body. Pheles keeps reaching towards Yuji, yelling for Johan when the silver arm removes itself from her body. The instant it does that, Wilhelmina grabs a hold of Pheles with her ribbons and yanks her down to the school’s roof.
  • Margery Daw and Shana fly up to aid Yuji, and Margery starts implementing a series of intricate unrestricted methods in order to capture and extract the Silver from Yuji. The Silver starts coming out of Yuji some more, with his torso leaving the Midnight Lost Child as well.
  • At the Bal Masqué headquarters, a suit of silver armor has started to disappear. The mad professor and Fecor wonder what’s happening, but Bel Peol and Hecate remark that it must be that the creator of the Midnight Lost Child – Pheles – has become involved. Pheles and Fecor decide that it’s time to take action.
  • Margery is about ready to fully extract the Silver from Yuji when Fumina and her butler suddenly arrive on the roof – which isn’t supposed to happen since they’re n Pheles’ Fuzetsu. Bel Peol breaks a chain she’s holding, which in result breaks the silver bracelets that Fumina and her butler are wearing. This causes the butler to explode, and causes Fumina to become “fully functional,” if you will.
  • Fumina flies up to where Yuji is, and Hecate’s staff materializes in her hand, which she then uses to break up Margery’s unrestricted methods. Fumina then taps the Silver with the staff, causing it to withdraw back into the Midnight Lost Child, and then stabs Yuji with the staff in order to seal the Midnight Lost Child.
  • Shana and Margery try to attack Fumina, but then are attacked by Fecor and his specialty method – Magnesia – which uses swarms of seemingly indestructible cubes to attack. Suddenly Master Throne Hecate herself and Fecor show themselves. Fecor keeps Shana and Margery busy while Hecate recovers her “faux vessel” which is Fumina. Hecate’s next goal is to “disassemble” the Midnight Lost Child’s container – aka Yuji.
  • Shana and Margery go after Hecate again, but this time as Fecor is about to unleash Magnesia when Wilhelmina grabs him. Margery then aids Wilhelmina in taking on Fecor as Shana takes on Hecate, who tries to use her specialized weapon – Aster – to attack.
  • Some unrestricted method then activates within Yuji, causing him to lose consciousness and he and Johan switch places. Thinking she finally has Johan back, Pheles erects her whirlwind around them and tries to get away. Hecate and Fecor try to attack Pheles, but without success while Shana pursues Pheles and Johan.
  • Power of existence starts to flow from Johan to Pheles, and both Pheles and Shana fear that the Midnight Lost Child is going to disappear. There is a huge explosion of existence, and Johan turns back into Yuji. Seeing that Pheles is back in action, Hecate and Fecor decide that this may not be the best time to try to retrieve the Midnight Lost Child and leave.
  • Finally everything seems to settle down, and Pheles tells everyone that she won’t try to retrieve Johan again, since Johan asked her not to. However, Johan did ask her for a favor, so she must leave to accomplish that. Wilhelmina and Shana ask what the favor is, but Pheles tells them that she cannot tell anyone…

Yeah, I'd probably be like that if a giant silver hand just went through me too

Johan! Yay! Pheles is tough
I guess it's time to go Yuji's back!
Hey, we have to have at least one shot of Yoshida

Holy Hell, what an episode! I used to think Hecate was kind of cute, but now she shows herself to be one bad-ass chick.

OK, let’s see if we can recount what happened:

    1. Pheles tried to retrieve Johan, but nearly drew out the Silver instead
    1. Fumina ends up being Hecate’s “faux vessel” (hey! I actually predicted right for once!) and puts Silver back into the Midnight Lost Child and seals it
    1. Hecate shows up to take the Midnight Lost Child with her, but gets drawn into a battle with Shana
    1. Something happens inside of Yuji, causing him to switch places with Johan, and Pheles tries to get away with him
    1. Something happens again, and Yuji and Johan swap places again. However, now Pheles agrees not to touch Yuji again (due to Johan telling her to) and has to go off on a mission of her own now

I’m not sure if we can call Pheles an ally of Yuji and the Flame Hazes (that sounds like some sort of 70s band name), but I’ll be shocked if she doesn’t play a pivotal role in all of this when the time comes. Of course, mystery #1 is what favor she is going on, followed by mystery #2, which is what happened to cause Johan and Yuji to swap places.

Mystery #3 is what is the silver armor doing at the Bal Masqué headquarters? And why was it disappearing when the Silver was coming out of Yuji? Just what the frack is going on with the Silver? And where is Sydonay during all of this?

Mystery #4, to me anyway, is what was the purpose of Fumina, Hecate’s “faux vessel?” It seemed that her mission was “complete” even before all of this started, so if that’s the case, what exactly was her mission? Was it just to collect memories and experiences and transferring them to Hecate, since she seems somewhat obsessed with that? My gut still seems to think it was more than that.

In any case, I wonder if all of this action, which is causing Satou, Tanaka, and Yoshida to realize how powerless they really are will eventually lead them to try to take action to become more involved. Satou has already asked how one becomes a Flame Haze, but we really haven’t gone back to that since. Could the other two be next in line in that endeavor? (Somehow, I don’t see Yoshida has a Flame Haze, however. Or Tanaka for that matter.)

I’m not even sure I can predict what will happen from this point on, considering what a mess everything is now. In any case, I think we can safely say that Shakugan no Shana is back, and I’m more than happy that it is.
