Blue Drop – Episode 11

It’s episode 11 of Blue Drop, and Mari isn’t in any mood to practice a play where Hagino will be opposite her. Meanwhile, Hagino is crushed at the appearance of Mari turning against her. However, someone unexpected shows up to comfort Hagino. Meanwhile, the Novaal returns and the Master Commander has a new plan dealing with how to finish off the Blue.

Where's the knife?
Pretty triangles May the force be with you

The highlights of this episode:

  • Tsubael drops Mari off at the harbor, and tries to plead Hagino’s case, but Mari just runs away without a word.
  • While the ship tries to repair itself, Hagino cries in the room in which Azanael told Mari the truth when suddenly Hagino sees a vision of Onomil. Hagino desperately apologizes to her, but the vision of Onomil tells her that what happened is not her fault before she disappears. Meanwhile, the Master Commander of the Novaal prepares to launch the “Mega-Bomber” against Blue
  • Mari and the others start to practice the play without Hagino, but Mari constantly messes up and doesn’t seem to be into it. Akane and Hiroko start to goof off, which causes Michiko to get agitated to the point of screaming at them over goofing off and she runs out of the theater.
  • Mari sees Sugawara-sensei afterwards and asks her if her parents were murdered. Sugawara is alarmed that Mari knows this much, but tells her what she knows – that her parents were found clinging to each other to protect her. However, Sugawara ponders who Mari may have heard things from.
  • Azanael returns just as the Mega-Bomber is about to leave and asks the girl working in the hanger why she’s about to launch it without Azanael’s authorization, but the girl tells her that the order came from the Master Commander. When Azanael confronts the Master Commander about it, citing the extent of the Mega-Bomber’s destructive power, the Master Commander just tells Azanael to get some rest.
  • Meanwhile, Mari, after hearing what happened to her parents from Sugawara, appears to be more upbeat and finds Michiko and drags her back to the theater to continue working on the play.
  • Hagino appears as a hologram and she and Mari talk after practice. Hagino once again apologizes to Mari, but Mari yells at Hagino for apologizing.
  • Meanwhile, Sugawara runs out to find Mari to see if she can find out if she can find out who Mari heard he information about her parents from when she sees Mari yelling at apparently no one. At first Sugawara thinks Mari is practicing the play until she see’s Hagino’s reflection in a pool next to where Mari is standing. The Mega-Bomber then flies over the school, and Hagino has to attend to Blue while Sugawara rushes to report the incident of the bomber flying overhead to her bosses.
  • Hagino has Blue surface in order to fight back, but it continues to list and can’t bring it’s weapons to bear against the weapon fired at them. Suddenly Blue rights itself and it is able to fire, destroying the Mega-Bomber before it hits. Hagino then looks over and sees the vision of Onomil sitting at the 2nd navigator’s station.
  • Meanwhile, Azanael, confused about the excessive use of force being used against Blue looks through Blue’s files and finds that the Emul Force Drive explosion not only caused people to succumb to their worst fears (apparently – and there appears to be some confusion here), but it also condensed brain waves causing those fears to actually materialize, I’m assuming physically.

Do I really have to do the play?
I'm sorry I blew you up! Pondering what to do
Machi is really dark. No really, can you even see this picture? Um yeah, what do you know what happened to my parents?
WTF is the Master Commander doing?
No! Not there! Anywhere but there! Don't take me back!
Big ship I look like crap
I'm sorry for blowing up your parents!
Yeah, you better be sorry if you want any action in the next episode! Action?
Design flaw I guess they're not trying to hide
Bad news
Center of attention Alien missile
Alien anti-alien missile thingy Whew. We didn't blow up
I see dead people

OK, so Mari and Hagino are back on terms, but we’re leading up to some big things happening. First off, what did Azanael mean by people’s fears “materializing” as is how Random Curiosity translated Azanael’s final lines. Does this mean they took physical form, and that’s why everyone went berserk or what? Like RC, I’m interested to see how this is further explained, and I agree agree with them as well that the way things are headed, Azanael will end up siding with Hagino.

The second thing coming up appears to be the realization of Hagino’s and Mari’s relationship, as the preview for episode 12 seems to suggest will happen next. Of course, the main question here is how far will this go?

Third, there is this invasion force that is apparently getting ready. Will it be averted or not, and will Hagino survive the climax and, I would guess, a final battle against the Novaal itself?

Two episodes to go and still so far to go.

  1. darn it. they should extend this series upto 24epis rather than 12 or 13 epis?

crap…I hope Michael Jordan would do a cameo appearance on the final episode. hehehe.

huh? Michael Jordan? the heck am I saying? LOL!

  2. @Josh: “First off, what did Azanael mean by people’s fears “materializing””

At the beginning of the series Emiru Force is used as a source of energy, and is also what makes the dimensional shift possible. However Shibariel (Master Commander) must have understood the real potential of Emiru Force even before they came to Earth. So she had Blue’s Emiru Force Drive sabotaged to test her theory (she states this in ep 12)… and she was right.

Somehow Emiru Force reacted to people’s (humans and aliens) thoughts, and created physical embodiments of those thoughts; physical manifestations of people’s fears and desires. As a result, all the people on the Island (humans and aliens) went nuts, and started to kill each other.

With this knowledge Shibariel finally developed the “Thought-Arresting (materializing) Weapon” ( Shinen Gyouketsu Heiki). This weapon enables Shibariel to create physical manifestation of her own thoughts (in other words, the user can control it), but it also can be used to react to the enemy’s fears, making them physical. The anime gives clear examples of these usages: first Shibariel created a representation of herself to deceive Azanael, and later made the weapon to directly react to Azanael’s fears, resulting in a bunch of creepy Onomils.

BTW, when I say physical, I mean physical… these things can even fight if needed. In the war (this part is from the manga) this weapon is used massively on humans, creating living nightmares that destroy everything on their way.
