It’s episode 9, and it’s time to break out the tissues as Fuko’s story arc comes to a close. Will she die? Will she wake up? Or will something else happen?

The highlights of this episode:
- Okazaki, Nagisa, and Fuko arrive at school and decide to have a wedding celebration party of their own with Fuko’s party set. Okazaki complains that Fuko is acting like a kid again, but Fuko tells him that if he’s so mature why doesn’t he call Nagisa by her first name (and vice versa). Okazaki is finally able to mutter out a “Nagisa,” but both are rather embarrassed.
- The three spend the night at school, popping the party poppers and burning the birthday candles down, and they eventually go to sleep. When Nagisa and Okazaki wake up, they’re the only ones there, and wonder to themselves what they are at the school for.
- Once back home, Nagisa apologizes to her parents for staying out overnight, but they tell her that she said she was going to. However, no one can remember why Nagisa said she and Okazaki were going to be out.
- On their way to school, Okazaki tells Nagisa that something feels strange, and Nagisa shows Okazaki one of Fuko’s starfish, and tells him that she found it in her room, but has no idea where it’s from.
- Back at school, Kyou asks Okazaki if he wants to go out shopping with him that Sunday, but he declines, saying that he has a feeling that there was something he needed to do that day. After telling Nagisa about this feeling later, she tells him that she has the same feeling.
- The two then run into the teacher who helped set up Ibuki-sensei’s wedding at the school making a banner for the wedding. They suddenly remember that Ibuki-sensei was having her wedding at the school. Nagisa wonders why they cared so much about it, and the teacher tells them it’s probably due to Ibuki’s younger sister. Suddenly Nagisa and Okazaki are able to remember Fuko and she suddenly appears before them again.
- On the wedding day, the trio seems depressed that they’re the only students there to celebrate. However, as the three run towards the courtyard to see Ibuki and her new husband out, they see the courtyard filled with students who somehow remembered about the wedding. Fuko’s plan to spreading the starfish was able to implant her wish onto everyone, even if they couldn’t remember her.
- Fuko disappears again, and Nagisa and Okazaki start crying. Ibuki comes over to ask them what’s wrong, and Okazaki tells her that a sweet girl that they knew helped all of this happens, and wants Ibuki to be happy. Ibuki realizes that Fuko’s spirit must have been with them, and is grateful that they spent time with her. Then Fuko is finally able to reveal herself for a final time to Ibuki-sensei to congratulate her older sister, and to wish her good luck.
- In the end, everyone forgets that Fuko was around, but they don’t really forget her either, knowing that the ghost of the girl running through the school must be cute and playful, like a girl they all seemed to used to know…

*Sniffle Sniffle Blubber Blubber*
This story arc ended with basically an inbetween ending. It could have ended sadly. It could have ended happily. But in the end, it ended on a rather melancholic yet hopeful note, with Fuko still not having woken up, but with the hope that she may one day.
When Nagisa and Okazaki forgot about Fuku, I didn’t really know what would happen, but I’m glad they were able to remember, and how everyone had forgotten about her, but not really at the end was also a reach-for-the-tissue type moment. This was definitely one of the more touching story arcs that I’ve seen so far in any of Key/Visual Art’s shows so far.
As for the next story arc, it looks like it’s Kotomi’s turn now.
