This is a special “review” for you today: CLAMP’s AMV-on-steroids for their modern stories: CLAMP in Wonderland 2. Join black and white Mokona as they travel through the worlds of 20 - yes 20 - of CLAMP’s works from the past 10+ years. If you think about it, there are a lot of classics in here. My thoughts after the screen shots (and there are a lot!)

Wow, what a trip. Even through this was just a glorified AMV, it was still great. I’ve always wondered what series like Magic Knight Rayearth and Cardcaptor Sakura would look like if they got the modern-day CG treatment. From the looks of this, it looks like that they would be spectacular, especially CSS (of course, I’m biased towards that one anyway).
Seriously, someone call CLAMP up or something and make a Cardcaptor Sakura 3 movie or something. I think I figured that, based on when the series started, Sakura should be around 18 or so by now. That’s a good time for her and Syaoran to get into some (magical) action again I think and it would kick ass.
Along the same vein, I guess it’s a statement of Angelic Layer and Chobits’ quality when they came out something like 5 years ago now that, even with today’s animation quality (and especially the quality of this short), that it didn’t look all that different from the series when they aired. Also, note that they use the manga characters designs and not the anime designs. I almost didn’t recognize Kamui and Fuma from X because of that.
This also reminded me of all the CLAMP works I have read/watched or am reading/watching (Angelic Layer, Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits, Tsubasa Chronicles, X, and xxxholic) as well as all the other ones which I haven’t picked up yet (all the others). CLAMP has so much out there that I’ve almost been constantly reading or watching something of theirs since I started watching anime and reading manga in late 2005 and I still haven’t gotten through most of their titles.
If you lost track of all the series featured here you go: Angelic Layer, Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits, CLAMP School Detectives, Clover, Duklyon, Kobato, Legal Drug, Legend of Chung Hyang, Magic Knight Rayearth, Man of Many Faces, Miyuki-chan in Wonderland, RG Veda, Shirahime-Syo, Suki Dakara Suki, Tokyo Babylon, Tsubasa Chronicles, X, xxxholic, and Wish (and yes, that’s 20…the same number of series as book covers in the end, probably not coincidentally). Also, did you notice that the Mokonas jumped into and out of the books from the series we saw first as last. Yep, they jumped into a book of Magic Knight Rayearth and out of a volume of Tsubasa Chronicles (in fact, it was a volume I just finished a couple weeks ago I think).
Another bit of trivia: the person who did the song during the video - Maaya Sakamoto - also did theme songs for both Cardcaptor Sakura and Tsubasa Chronicles, while the group who did the ending credits song - ROUND TABLE - did the opening theme for Chobits.
Unfortunately, I doubt anyone is going to license a little 5-minute short AMV unless Funimation puts it as an extra on a Tsubasa Chronicles DVD or something.

this is great! most of clamp’s first anime featured character designs was a classic. most especially, the one from MKR. thanks for this post man. i need to see this on youtube. haaar!
hmm… i wonder why code geass wasn’t included here. i mena, although its sunrise, the character designs are of clamp. oh yeah, clamp is an all SHE group. hehe. cool, ain’t it? =P
Well, I’m guessing that it’s because it isn’t a “CLAMP work” is why.
Also, I was just thinking how much Code Geass’ character designs looked “CLAMPish,” and then when doing research for this post, I saw that they did the character designs for it, and I was like “oh, that’s why”
I’m already waiting for CLAMP in Wonderland 3 :P I totally agree with you, Cardcaptor Sakura was just awesome in here (yes, I’m biased too XD)
CLAMP did a lot of character designs for other novels as well, with the most notable one being Sohryuden: Legend of the Dragon Kings. Since these aren’t CLAMP’s original work from scratch, its only logical that they didn’t include them for their own anniversary celebration.
The precious box set is a little bit pricey, but I think its one that most CLAMP nut wouldn’t be able to resist lol
Unfortunately I don’t have a R2 DVD player (unless my computer will do it), and the CD just looks like the music, not the animation - and this is actually something I probably would get from Japan since it’s just basically an AMV.
The box set does apparently come with an art book too, though, I think, which is probably where most of the $30-$40 goes, and which wouldn’t be bad to have either.
*chants* CCS 3! CCS 3!
