It’s episode 2, and did Sunohara learn his lesson from his first “fight” with Sakagami? (of course not!) Who’s going to be president of the new drama club? Also, learn which way Kyou likes to swing!

The episode starts off with Nagisa staying her “do you want me to take you to the place where wishes come true” line, and Okazaki basically standing there in a “wtf” daze. Nagisa then asks him what he’s doing there, and Okazaki just says he’s out for a walk. He then asks her what she was doing, and she tells him that she was reciting lines from a play she wants to perform the the drama club reforms.
Meanwhile, in the world with no birth and no death, a girl piles gears, screws, and other assorted pieces of scrap metal on top of each other in a bucket. A a young boy narrates, stating that the girl is the only person in this world, and thus it’s a lonely existence for her. The shot changes to a view of a completed metal doll, and the narrator notes that the doll was made for him and ponders how to get into that world…
Meanwhile, Okazaki’s wild day begins with Kyou Fujibayashi wildly riding a motor bike down the sidewalk towards him. Okazaki is able to leap out of the way before she crashes into a post. Meanwhile, once at school, Okazaki’s friend Sunohara is ready for Round 2 with kick-ass girl Tomoyo Sakagami. Sunohara once again tries to attack her, but this time Sakagami does her power-kicking action and eventually, after 528 kicks to keep Sunohara airborne, kicks him into a dust chute in the wall. She then calmly plucks his fingers off the side of the chute, allowing him to fall into the depths of the school building. Sakagami sighs, and as she walks away, she remarks that seeing Okazaki and Sunohara brings back memories, which leaves Okazaki baffled.
On a break, Okazaki then goes up stairs to visit the library and finds a girl sitting on the floor reading through some very advanced looking books. She’s about to cut part of a page out of one when Okazaki stops her (since, you know, cutting pages out of library books is bad). She starts to eat her lunch, and Okazaki notes that food isn’t allowed in the library either. She then allows Okazaki to take a bite. After that, Okazaki leaves since it’s time for class. After telling Ryou about the girl, she tells him that it was Kotomi Ichinose, who is a genius girl and is doing independent study instead of going to classes.
He then starts to tell Ryou about how her sister, Kyou, comes to school on her bike (but only gets out “bi”) when Kyou comes storming in and drags him out into the hallway, asking him what he’s doing since coming to school on her bike is prohibited. Once back in the class, Okazaki then announces to the class that Kyou is “bi.” Ryou is trying to figure out what Okazaki means by “bi” then finally gets it when some boys near by are like “she does with both boys and girls?” Kyou comes storming back in and is about to destroy Okazaki when Ryou asks her if it’s really true, and Kyou tells her not to believe it.
After apparently being spared the death sentence by Kyou, Okazaki walks outside after school and sees Nagisa sitting under a tree in the courtyard holding a broom. He asks her if something is wrong, but she tells him no. Later in the drama club room, which has no been cleaned up, the two decide on a plan to try to recruit members for the drama club. Nagisa finally makes a post filled with pictures of dango to advertise for the club.
Okazaki is putting posters up around the school when he hears a girl say “ouch!” in the classroom he’s next to. He peeks in and sees a girl carving on a wood star with a utility knife. He walks over to her to see what she’s doing, but she yells in fright and runs to the door. Okazaki asks what the star-thing is, and the girl gets all dreamy-eyed. While she’s still in that state, Okazaki gets the knife from her. He tells her that the blade is chipped, so it’s dangerous for her to use, but the girl tells him to give it back. He then sees that her hand is hurt, but she denies it. He tells her to give him a high-5, and when she does, she clearly feels pain in her hand again. While she’s holding her in-pain hand, he walks off and says he’ll see her later.
Later, while putting more posters up, Sunohara runs into him and notes how it’s weird that Okazaki is advertising for a club when he used to hate clubs and everyone who attended them. When Sunohara leaves, Nagisa, who overheard the conversation, asks if it’s true that he hates club activities. Okazaki tries to hell her not to pay attention to Sunohara, but Nagisa still looks unsettled.
Back at home, Okazaki is making some dango treats to go along with the theme of the drama club posters when his father comes in to see what he’s doing. His father asks if he can help, but Okazaki becomes enraged and tells him not to touch what he’s doing, and yells at his father, telling him that he treats him like a stranger, grabs the bag of dango and runs out of the room and out of the house.
After running down the street aways, Okazaki spots Nagisa, and hangs out with her. After showing her the dango, she confesses to him that she was depressed all day, after the students she was cleaning the room with left her alone in the room.
He then tells Nagisa that the story behind Sunohara saying that he hates clubs is that Okazaki came to the school and joined the basketball team, but had to quit. Nagisa asks if he came to dislike basketball, and Okazaki tells her that he didn’t, but he hasn’t touched a ball in a while. Nagisa then suggests that they play basketball after school the next day.
The next day, Okazaki is hanging out in Sunohara’s dorm and they decide to skip school. It begins to rain outside, but Okazaki decides to go to school to make sure Nagisa isn’t still waiting there to meet him after school gets out. However, once he gets to school, there Nagisa is waiting for him, holding a basketball, and he chides her for waiting for him in the rain. She just says that she wants to play basketball, so Okazaki takes the ball and gets into a stance to take a shot. However, the ball just drops out of his hand, and he falls to his knees on the ground. Nagisa asks him what’s wrong, and Okazaki tells her that he injured his shoulder in a fight with his father, and he isn’t able to shoot anymore, and that’s why he quit. Nagisa recoils is horror as if she had just done something horribly wrong, and ends up fainting…

I have to say that, at least until this episode got serious in the last few minutes, I was laughing by butt off. It’s been a while since I’ve seen an anime episode that made me laugh this much. From Sunohara getting a beat down (again), to Okazaki getting the last laugh against Kyou, to “uguu!,” this was a great episode.
Of course, that doesn’t mean there wasn’t some serious stuff. We learn more about how Nagisa’s classmates seem to distance themselves from her, and we get more background on just out bitter Okazaki is about his father.
We also get introduced to the final two girls from the opening credits, though we only get one of their names. Also, I wonder if it’s a coincidence that we have this girl in “the world with no death and no birth” while genius girl, Kotomi, is reading books about advanced astrophysics and wave theory. I still also have my suspicions about Nagisa, especially with how much her classmates blow her off, and how I’ve never actually seen her interacting with anyone other than her parents and Okazaki.

ey, where’s the dribble pic of fuko here? =/ that was so cute… =P
kotomi’s not a weird girl. she’s just brainy and loves to cut pages of books. that’s all. =D
