Doujin Work – Episode 09

We can’t have an anime series without at least one episode at the beach now can we? Of course not! Najime and Kaneru are tricked into going to the beach for a Doujin Camp and have to churn out a new doujin in two days or else the thousands of people who have been given fliers for their event may not be all that happy. Also, enjoy some heavy Najimi midriff-bearing action!

Summer is time to play Ooh, Najimi wants to 'play'

The episode starts with the four girls (Najimi, Tsuyuri, Kaneru, and Sora) heading to the beach for some summer fun, as they’ve been busy doing doujin stuff all summer. However, once there, Tsuyuri tells Najimi and Kaneru that they aren’t there to play as this is….DRAWING CAMP!

Najimi gets angry that their fun time at the beach looks like will be wasted by drawing manga, so Tsuyuri tells her to take it up with the mastermind…Justice (who just happens to be there too). Najimi tells him that she isn’t going to draw manga at the beach, but he says that’ll be a problem since he’s already advertised that she’s going to be selling a new manga there.

Najimi sees that Justice has advertised the sale to take place in two days and Najimi tells him that there’s no way they can do it that fast. She then demands to know how many advertisement fliers he handed out. Suddenly Hoshi shows up excitedly announcing that he handed out 5,000 fliers in the neighboring town. This causes Najimi to try to run away, but Justice and Hoshi finally capture her and set her down in front of some paper so she can get to work.

Sora arrives in a mermaid swimsuit and wants to play, but Najimi says she doesn’t have time. Kaneru decides that she’ll go with Sora and that she’ll “examine the male body” while out on the beach. Hoshi tells Najimi that she should go make a sketch on the beach too, and he’ll volunteer to be her subject, but Justice cuts down that idea.

That evening, after Sora and Kaneru take a bath in the hot spring, Kaneru breaks out matching pink mini-shirts for she and Najimi to wear. Najimi doesn’t really dig them, but Kaneru ends up getting her to wear it. Meanwhile, Hoshi and Justice are sleeping out in Hoshi’s car and Hoshi once again tries to get Justice’s permission to date Najimi, but Justice still refuses. In frustration Hoshi runs out to the Ocean and starts swimming madly.

Back inside, Tuyuri and Sora then come in saying they need to make a run to the store since Justice didn’t bring or order anything for dinner. They head out to the car and see Justice carrying Hoshi back onto the beach. Justice says that Hoshi got stung by a Jellyfish and almost drowned when Tsuyuri notes that Hoshi isn’t breathing. Justice gives Hoshi some heavy mouth-to-mouth, getting Hoshi to breath again (this, of course, causes Kaneru to go wild).

Tsuyuri and Sora then borrow Hoshi’s car keys, and as they’re about to get into the car, a man shows up asking if they’re Hoshi’s friends…

Well, I was starting to think that I was going to have to leave this series unfinished as the group that was subbing it hadn’t released anything for quite some time, and then all of a sudden they started releasing a whole bunch of episodes at once and have caught up to the point there another speed-sub group had taken the series. So Doujin Work is back and hopefully is the group keeps releasing episodes like they have, I’ll be able to finish it in a couple weeks.

In any case, this is clearly a the first of a two-part episode as the next episode will also be at the beach and Najimi and Kaneru will actually have to get around to making their Doujin. I actually thought this was a pretty good episode and was pretty funny all-around. This hasn’t been a fantastic series, but it hasn’t been bad either.

Also, it’s amazing how different copies of the same show can have different quality. The fansub I downloaded clearly had far superior quality to the raw I had downloaded earlier – so much so that I had taken screenshots with the raw, then decided to retake them with the .mkv version of the fansub (since I could watch it with subs turned off).

Next time on Doujin Wars: Time for another fan-service Beach Episode!
