While I’m not blogging this series, I am watching it. This was a series which, when I read about it, I both had doubts and hopes about it, but I overall didn’t have a good feeling, and unfortunately the first episode didn’t help alleviate those feelings.
The first thing I noticed was how…not impressed I was with the animation, and particularly the character designs. They just look….bad. I’m not sure I can exactly pin down what I thought was bad about them, but I didn’t like them. I think they got a little better when we jumped ahead in time and everyone was 5 years old, but it still irked me.
Second, I felt that Myself; Yourself was trying to be a mix of several different series. Maybe “coming back after X years” is a common story-starter for visual novels, but when the guy was like “I’m back after 5 years!” I immediately thought of Kanon, for example.
I still think this show has some potential, and I usually don’t ditch a series after only one episode unless it’s clearly not my thing, and Myself; Yourself wasn’t quite that bad. However, I’m not sure it has a lot of time to improve itself.
