Doujin Work – Episode 05

Episode 5 comes around, and Najimi is ready to sell her second doujinshi! Also, Justice has another major misunderstanding (led on my Tsuyuri) which leads him to write a massive doujin to teach a certain someone a very important lesson.

I need a Rival!
Justice is worried Nooooo! We ran out of money again!

Najimi declares that her second doujinshi is finished, but she laments that she feels unsatisfied, and wonders what it is. Tsuyuri suggests that Najimi get a rival. Najimi readily agrees, misunderstanding Tsuyuri’s comment as meaning creating a rival for her doujinshi characters.

Later, on the train, Tsuyuri asks a worn-out looking Justice what’s wrong. Justice tells her that he was out buying Doujinshi one day when he saw Najimi and her future boyfriend (Hoshi) out together. Justice followed them into….the hotel district! And watched in horror as they entered a hotel together. Tsuyuri then proceeds to toy with Justice and his confused feelings about whether he should ask Najimi what was up.

Next, we see Justice, Tsuyuri, Sora, and Najimi all at Najimi’s apartment. Tsuyuri’s coyness continues as, in response to Najimi thanking everyone for helping her on her project, Tsuyuri says things like “two people doing together is more fun than doing it alone,” which causes Justice to just get even more flustered. Finally, after Najimi reveals that the big scene in her next doujinshi is going to be at a hotel, Justice decides he’s had enough and goes out to administer, er, more justice on Hoshi, this time by writing a doujinshi about “the true meaning of love.”

After several straight days and nights of Justice writing doujin without sleep, Najimi and Tsuyuri come over to help, only to find a stinky, sweaty Justice who even scares Sora away. Once inside, the trio tell Justice to get some rest and that they’ll finish the doujin, which is now up to 500 pages long. After Najimi keeps making mistakes with his work, Justice finally kicks all of them out.

Finally, it’s the day of Comiket and Najimi finds that her stand is right next to…the girl who she made fun of in the first episode, and then came back and made fun of her first doujin. The two look at each other’s manga, and ultimately have the same exact reaction: laughing at the other’s work, offended that they thought they heard the other girl laugh at their work, and the realization that the other girl thinks their work is better.

Finally, Hoshi arrives at Comiket, and immediately sees Justice and runs away. Meanwhile, Sora calls Justice and, in hopes of resolving the confusion, tells Justice that Hoshi and Najimi were taking photos at the hotel, but with out elaborating further. Justice, in a fit of silent rage, crushes his cellphone in his hand and Tsuyuri tells Sora that she didn’t give Justice enough information. Justice then tracks Hoshi down in the restroom and starts to pursue him, finally cornering him in front of Sora’s table, holding his 500 page hardcover Doujin over him.

Justice is afraid that Najimi and Hoshi may be doing 'this' and 'that'
It's just more fun when two people do it Ecchi!
Justice and his pet...python? I am Hoshi and I shall steal Najimi from your broke hands!
Sleep isn't the only thing Justice has been neglecting
Even Sora thinks so What are you laughing at?
Justice vs. Cell Phone: Justice wins. Who will sell the most? Or any?
Hoshi is doomed

Justice’s huge misunderstandings are pretty humorous, especially when he’s led on by Tsuyuri’s intentional and Najimi’s occasional accidental double-meaning responses. However, I’m not sure if the series can be carried on that online. There are only so many times Justice can misunderstand before it gets old, so hopefully we get something new relatively soon. Also, I’m wondering how long it will take Najimi to realize that Hoshi has a thing for her. I’m pretty certain everyone else has realized it, but Najimi seems pretty dense about that stuff.

This episode also seems to indicate that Sora isn’t Justice’s illegitimate daughter or anything, as she comes over to “visit” his apartment this episode, so I’m not really sure what she is in relation to Justice. I also like the fact that Justice has a pet python or whatever it is.

Overall, I guess this was a decent episode. It was pretty, but not very, funny I thought.
