Doujin Work - Episode 03

The review of episode 3 rolls up and this time Najimi gives birth to her precious new creation, but she hopes this new fact won’t drive away her loyal customers. However, Tsuyuri and Justice have their own thoughts on Najimi’s new bundle of joy.

Everyone shall love my perverted manga!
You do realize that doujinshi is porn, right? Najimi describes what it feels like to give birth

The episode starts off with Najimi asking Justice on the train how to make doujinshi that sells well. He tells Najimi that any good doujinshi is well-drawn, erotic, and has an interesting story. Najimi, unsure of her ability to do any of these things gets mad at Justice, but he finally tells her the most important factor: love. Najimi thinks that she can pull that one off, and thus sets off to write her first book.

Three days later, Tsuyuri and Justice are at the university wondering where Najimi has been when she finally slugs into the room. Najimi proclaims that she’s “given birth to something” and that she’s suffered “more than enough pain” while making it. Tsuyuri picks up on the double-meaning of what Najimi is saying and starts playing along (though Najimi doesn’t realize the double meaning of her own words). However, Justice takes the wrong interpretation of what Najimi has said and seriously believes that Najimi has given birth to a baby (one might think how he could have missed the pregancy, but while kidding around, Najimi mentions something about “having never noticed it”).

Tsuyuri asks what Najimi has named her creation, and she tells her: Love Typhoon. Justice mentions that he’s glad that the “registry” accepted the name, thoroughly confusing Najimi. Justice then asks about her “partner” but Najimi thinks he’s asking about the customer. Hearing Najimi correct his use of “partner” to “customer” horrifies Justice.

Back at Najimi’s apartment, Najimi shows Love Typhoon to Tsuyuri to see what she thinks. After seeing the…questionable front cover artwork, Tsuyuri tries to get around the matter at hand by remarking at how good the paper quality is and saying that it’s obvious that Najimi “worked hard” on it, but finally she gives up and leaves.

Finally, the day of Comiket comes and Najimi arrives with the 30 copies of her doujinshi of questionable quality. Once inside, Justice opens the box. Upon seeing said doujinshi of questionable quality, he starts going through the “the paper is good” routine, which doesn’t make Najimi very happy. He then notices it: the title of Love Typhoon, and Justice weeps over Najimi naming her first Doujinshi after her child!

After not selling anything all day, finally the boy who handed Najimi’s porn back to her in front of her friend shows up and starts looking through the book. He says that he likes girls who write dirty manga, to which Najimi yells out if he’s sexually harassing her. This yell has the effect of, for whatever reason, attracting several guys to her booth to view her manga. The boy decides to buy a copy however and, being her first ever doujinshi customer, she leaps out and hugs him. However, after being informed by Tsuyuri that buying a copy won’t guarantee receiving a hug, everyone else leaves.

Witnessing this hugging incident Justice arrives to administer, er, justice and to force the boy to acknowledge his child (thinking that he is the “customer” which caused Najimi to “deliver”).

Justice wishes he were the lucky one
C-Customer?! Sell doujinshi, not your body!
Ha ha, that was funny Love Typhoon
Najimi gets the bad news
Justice's imagination runs wild Yes...the paper is of good quality...
Is it really that bad? Yes, it's really that bad
Please....be gentle...
At least mine doesn't suck THAT bad! You're that guy who made my friend think that I'm a freak!
How do you like your future boyfriend reading your porn? Ecchi is echhi
Yeah! Chick drawn porn!
Popular reaction to the doujinshi of questionable quality Thank you for buying my porn!
No hugs guaranteed Justice's justice
There are just some things you shouldn't sell

This was a so-so episode, but it’s fairly realistic. This was a comedy, so I wasn’t expecting Najimi to suddenly become a doujinshi master, but seeing reality smack Najimi in the face is funny in a sick sort of way (of course, it’s made to be funny too).

At least we’ve now set up the fact that Najimi needs to learn how to actually draw doujinshi, we can head into some episodes which hopefully will deal with her training up.
