July 2007 Webstats

Once again it’s time for the post that no one but me cares about! (isn’t that all my posts?) It’s time for the web stats post, July 2007 edition!

Since I moved to a new domain and moved my podcasts directly under the same website as the blog, it’s rather pointless to compare this month’s web stats to previous months, so I’ll just list them this time. These web stats are brought to you by awstats, cause their interface is pretty and everything, unlike analog, which is boring and bland.

The lowdown

July saw…
981 “unique” visitors
3,061 visits
12,134 page views
32,587 hits, and
5.15 gigabytes of data transferred

Most and Least

The day with the most visits was July 15th, with 146 visits.
The day with the most page views was July 10th, with 1,182.
The day with the most hits was July 31st with 2,728.
The day with the most bandwidth usage was July 8th with 587 MB

The day with the fewest visits was July 6th with 64 visits
The day with the fewest page views was July 11th with 181.
The day with the fewest hits was July 6th with 419.
The day with the lowest bandwidth usage was July 18th with 28.9 MB.

Most visited day of the week by page views is Tuesday. Least visited day is Sunday.

Most visited time of day by page views is the 7pm hour. Least visited time is, I guess not surprisingly, the 4am hour.

Who visits

It’s no surprise that most visitors to my blog are from the United States, but I also have several visitors from (in order from most to least): Sweden, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Japan, the EU, China, and Finland (as well as several other nations).

64.5% of visitors use Windows while 23.6% of OSes are listed as “unknown.” 11% use Macs.

39.6% of visitors use Firefox while 36.1% use Internet Explorer. Itunes makes up about 4% of visits, while 16% of browsers are listed as “unknown.”

How do people visit?

As is the case with most websites, most visitors only visit for 0 to 30 seconds (about 70%). However, almost 15% are listed as visiting 30 minutes or longer, with the other 15% or so visiting between 30 seconds and 30 minutes.

The three most visited files on my website are, probably not shockingly, my podcast RSS, my homepage, and my blog RSS.

The top 5 most visited actual blog posts are:

Ok, I think that just about wraps this up.  One thing I should note - I’m getting a lot of hits from a trio of porn sites.  I’m not sure why.  The only thing I can figure is that a spambot tried commenting on one of my posts (I can take a good guess at which one) and then they linked to it for some reason, but my handy-dandy spam filter plug in blocked the spam comment.  So they’re basically linking to my page for no reason, but I’m still getting a lot of hits through it.  Oh well.

Looking at the number of unkown OS and browsers i would guess the number of visits generated by bots to your site should be around 25%-15%. The number of visits can be misleading since bots can often visit sites very frequently.
To check your stats for bots look for entries such as crawl-66-249-66-129.googlebot.com. I would advise getting a free invisible counter to find out the real visitor numbers.

Try using Google Analytics. It’s free and I think its quite accurate :)

Actually, I did sign up to use Google Analytics. It’s just I started in the middle of the month, so last month’s stats for it are kind of pointless. Next month maybe.
