Nagasarete Airantou - Episode 11

Starting with this episode, I’m going to try to cut down on how much I write per an episode. It takes too long, takes up too much space, and is just a pain to write. This with the fact that next week I’ll be starting my second anime blogging project, School Days, I just thought it was time to make a change. I had originally planned to keep writing the Nagasarete Airantou episodes the same just to be consistent…but I changed my mind.

In any case, we’re now up to episode 11. We’re quickly approaching the halfway point of the series (ANN says it’s slated for 26 episodes) and in this one Suzu gets a fever and we meet Yukino’s mother.

Lucky!
Or maybe not more massive blood loss

At first we are led to believe that Ikuto has finally come to his senses as a male and decides to willingly take a bath with Suzu. Alas, we find this is untrue as we find Suzu dreaming it while sleeping in a big bucket of water, giving herself a cold while she’s at it.

Ikuto is ordered to find some ice, and is told the place on the island where ice is stored. Unfortunately, once he gets there, he finds that Yukino’s mother, Kagami, Kuma-Kuma and Kamo-Kamo have eaten all the ice to eat what amounts to home-made snow cones.

To fetch more ice, Yukino, Kagami, Ikuto, and Kuma-Kuma and friends trek up Mt. Fuji (yes, the volcano on the island is named Mt. Fuji. so creative I know). There they run into a blizzard, have snowfights, watch Ikuto ’s nosebleeds freeze in midair, and cause a giant avalance just as Ikuto recovers from falling off a cliff.

In the end, Ikuto gets back to Suzu with a less-than-handsized piece of snow - and he’s taken so long that Suzu has already recovered anyway. But the piece of snow is put to good use as Ikuto comes down with a fever himself for all his adventures in the blizard.

This is what happens when you live with unmanly boys

At least Suzu had a good dream when she got sick...

This was a reasonably humerous episode. Kagami is basically a 30-year old loli, and we probably know why Yukino wants to act and be treated all grown up - because she acts more like an adult than her mother.

Machi and Ayane show up as usual, and as usual add very little to nothing to the actual story that’s going on, other than some humerous moments as Machi communicates to Ayane with morse code via her voodoo doll.

With so many characters, we’ve had as many, if not more, character introduction or exploration episodes as episodes that actually progress any sort of plot and this was, ultimately another one. I guess this episode shows how far Ikuto is willing to go for Suzu, but I think we’ve already kind of seen that before. Otherwise it was an introduction to Kagami.
