Welcome to Josh’s Anime Blog version 2.0!

My anime blog has now transitioned to WordPress successfully (at least as far as I can tell).  Getting everything to work ended up actually being a lot easier than I thought it would be once I found a couple tricks online.  However, if you see anything that you think is amiss, let me know either by posting a comment or by emailing me at podcast [at] anime [dot] calculusman [dot] com.

As you can also see, I’ve changed my layout in anticipation of the release of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I hope you like it.  Once the first disc is released, I’ll change my layout back, though I may design a brand new layout since by then it will probably be about the time to get around to that anyway.

For those with RSS feeders to my site, I have set up a redirect so that any RSS feeder you use should automatically switch over to the new feed.  However, if it doesn’t, the link to the new feed is at the bottom of the page.  There is also now a feed for comments, not that I get any on this blog.

And speaking of comments, you do have to register to post them.  Sorry, anti-spam measure.

Thirdly, to go along with the unveiling of my new blogging software,  I am announcing that I am, tentatively, going to Otakon 2007 in Baltimore July 20-22.  I say tentatively because I’ve reserved a hotel room and registered for the convention, but right now I’m going alone so I’m a little nervous.  This would also be my first vacation where I’m going by myself and not meeting up with people I know.

Maybe I should see if Ataru from Northern Virginia Anime with Ataru is going….  We could have a joint podcast! woohoo! lol.

Oh, and that’s another thing.  So far I haven’t missed a week posting a podcast.  By the time Otakon comes around, if I still don’t miss a week, I’ll be on episode 34.  I currently don’t have a laptop and I don’t see myself getting one in the near future unless I can find a cheapy one somewhere, so I’m not sure what I’m going to do for podcasting that week.  I could try to buy some sort of digital recorder I suppose and then post a podcast in the middle of the week instead of Saturday (or skip a week).

However, if I do eventually get a laptop and either there is a wireless connection at the convention center or my hotel has internet (that may be iffy considering where I’m staying) I may do a podcast on site (woohoo!).

Wordpressing

Hopefully tonight, but definitely some time this week, I’ll be switching by blogging software from sphpblog to Wordpress.

I have been very happy with sphpblog and it met my needs when I wanted to start a blog without having to pay for a database with my host, but it can be clunky at times.

Well, now that I do have a database with my host, and having used wordpress in a couple other blogs, the only thing holding me back from switching this blog to wordpress was the choice between doing the labor to move all my content over to wordpress (there is no way that I know of to transfer posts from sphpblog to wordpress) or starting from scratch.

Well, I’ve now created a test instance of wordpress and I’ve copied all of my content into it’s database now. Now the only thing left is to try to move it into it’s test directory into the root and replacing this blog. This will include backing up everything, then conducting the actual move, and then testing to make sure everything works, that links work, etc.

If all goes well, my blog will hopefully be back online in an a couple of hours. If all doesn’t go well, well…I guess it depends how much it doesn’t go well on what I decide to do then. Luckily with the sphpblog, since it’s all flat files, I can pretty much re-upload it and everything should work fine.
